Hello all,
I own NO video game cabinets. But in a year+, I turn 50, and am pondering what cabinet should be my mid-life gift to myself. I've traveled to many arcades worldwide--Japan, Galloping Ghost, Funspot, Free Gold Watch, the one in Portland who's name I'm forgetting, Rhode Island...Im hugely passionate about the scene and just wanted to say hi.

Top hits im considering for that 50th birthday....Tempest, Robotron, Food Fight, Cloak and Dagger, Warlords....yeah some of my wishlist are probably unachievable but HEY A MAN CAN DREAM AMIRIGHT

I already own 20+ retro consoles and love (and actually PLAY) them all...so this would be a new frontier.

I'm in West Philly, say hi if you wish. And thanks to the guys at Podouken Podcast who approved my membership for me---great show with tons of laughs and cabinet love.

As a former Philadelphia area resident (born there and raised in the Wayne/King of Prussia area for my early years until age 12 and used to go back more frequently when I still had more family back there but not so much anymore), I vote for the best video arcade game of all time which would be (IMHO of course):

Tempest!

Not that hard to find still, and no console or other reproduction of the game for any other platform has ever equaled the original. The precision of the spinner control is absolutely essential to play the game properly and at the higher levels.

Plus the cabinet artwork is simply gorgeous and color vectors are just a joy to look at...no modern day LCD/LED screen can reproduce that iridescent glow of true vector graphics.

Of course, you'll need to educate yourself on vector monitors and how to maintain them, but that's part of the "fun" of owning :) .

Hopefully you'll find something soon.

p.s. Robotron would be a very close second choice.

Welcome to this crazy club.

Jonathan

I started by building a MAME cab after randomly googling Donkey Kong and Robotron in a moment of nostalgia. To me, it's hard to beat something that will play dozens of your favorite games... I ended up building a horizontal then vertical cabinet before starting to grab the dedicated games I loved.

Welcome tot he hobby!

Never been there but I do like a good cheesesteak. On my short list for sure!

I just turned 50, and strangely..... your list looks like something I would come up with.

Welcome.
