Hello all,
My name is Dave and I'm new to the forums today, though I've been poking around, reading, for awhile now. I found the site while working on my last project. I took a Skee Toss B.C. machine and converted it into a fully functioning Skee Ball machine. Skee Toss B.C. was made for little kids to just toss small rubber balls into the holes. But the holes, the rings, and all of the internals were mostly normal Skee Ball size. So, I built a ramp, cleaned it up, add a few touches and it's a fun addition to our home. And I bought the thing for $35, which my wife approved of.

As I was finishing that up, a coworker of mine told me his parents had a VS. Super Mario Bros. arcade machine in their house which they needed someone to take. My wife also thought this would be fun. Two for two. It works very well, though it looks like hell. I'm going to start cleaning it up and seeing what else I can do with it. I'm interested in the discussions on here about reproduction buttons. I'm also interested to know about what can be done with a VS. board. I've seen an attachment board that claims to let you play both sides and people that claim there are reproduction chip sets out there. All things I want to ask questions about. I'm also working on some artwork for the cabinet cause I'm not wild about the original.

I'm looking forward to getting some guidance from people who know more about this stuff than I do and contributing what I can.

Welcome to the madness. You are officially infected with the disease, it's up to you how bad it will get. Make sure you get your wife sucked into it also! It will help keep some battles to a minimum, lol.

Tons of fun in this hobby and we all seem to have our reasons for getting in. Many great people here to help with just about any arcade project you can come up with. Years of experience to help get you through a tough repair or restore.

What skills do you have for these games? Soldering, read schematics, cabinet builder, artist to restore art?

Just like many with experience, there are many newbies that were lost when they came here and have been able to get in and take care of their games after posting here.

If you are looking for someone to pay to do a repair or restore, many here can help you with that too.

Welcome to the madness and above all, have fun!

I can't believe I never looked back here again for comments. Sorry, Logical Highs. Right now, I'm kind of a jumble of very little skill. After working on my house for years, I have enough know how to reconstruct the physical aspects of my games. I'm hoping to get more into the electrical / programming side of things.

I'm a C# developer and each language I jump into, I can usually figure out. I'm interested in seeing people make high score save mods for games. I think that would be a fun way to get my feet wet. I just don't know where I'd get source code and I don't have any way to program the roms. It's just a thought right now.

The other thing I can do is help in art reproduction. I've actually made some for my Vs. Super Mario Bros. I'm trying to get it printed right now, and if it comes out nice, I plan on sharing the files on here. Just waiting to print it first because I want to see it in person before someone else. :)

Thanks for the welcome. I'm having fun so far.

Most ROM mods are are taken from the ROMs used in MAME and tested there too. I'm not a programmer so someone might chime in with a correction or more information.
