Hi all,

My name is Rob and I live in San Francisco. I have a few candy cabs and unfortunately one of them (my New Net City) is having an issues where it powers on but no picture on the screen. Tested with a few different Naomi's and I get sound, can hear a click and hum of the monitor but nothing comes on the screen. Looking for a repair person. Anyone have any leads?

Thanks!
Rob

Hi Rob. Welcome to KLOV. I've no experience with Candy cabs but I'm assuming they are CRTs. There are tons of us in the bay so I'm sure someone can help.

Thanks, Mark! Yes, it is ultimately a CRT issue. Unfortunately, I just don't have any experience fixing them. If you happen to know anyone, please send them my way! Thanks again.

Welcome!

As an fyi, this site also has local forums. You have to have set your city in the main klov web site to get access to them though. I didn't know this for many months.

The reason I bring this up, is that you can do a search there. I remember seeing posts about some guy in Vallejo that supposedly does good monitor work.

Awesome. Thank you for that info. I updated my address on the main site. Do you recall where the local forums appear? I am poking around for it now.

Thanks, Mark. If you happen to know anyone specific, please let me know. Obviously happy to pay for their time, travel, etc. I've tried reaching out to several places but no luck yet.

Click "forums" in the top left. About halfway down the page is Local Area Groups. There is a Northern California (& Reno) group in there

Weird, I don't see it. I added my address on the main site. I must be missing something

That's right... they are 100v, correct?
Yep, I have it on a step down transformer. I have several other candy cabs that all work fine. I think something got damaged in shipping (maybe some cold solder issue or cap or fuse). The seller had videos of it working prior to shipment.

Sounds like it's time to cash in on the shipping insurance. Call the shipper.

In the mean-time, assuming it's the original monitor it's a Toshiba PF. Sharp Image in Las Vegas can fix it for you. I'd offer, but I don't have one of those tubes kicking around anymore after downsizing.

Yeah, I may have to go that route but need to figure out how to get the chassis out first. Thanks!
