Don't know how long ago it happened, but I just noticed over at CPR that the Cyclone playfield pre-order is closed, AND the Space Shuttle playfield is next up!

Time to go count my penny jar, I want both :)

I saw that the other day I was bummed.
I have a guy that wants to go for for the world Record on my machine.
A Spanking new Playfield would be sweet for him.
Yes, he is good , He Wants 3 months of pratice before he goes for it.
Unfortunatally we will be shutting down in a few months for the season.
If I had a new playfied I will let him go for it.
Yes i found out today.

Sweet! I'm on the pre-sale list for Space Shuttle. Maybe my $50 Space Shuttle will see the light of day again!

Are these really worth it - almost seems they want as much as you can buy an entire machine for. Would the investment pay off?

I'm liking the Silverball so much I'd almost consider it, but that playfield alone would cost more than I have into the thing including purchase price.

I was debting getting on the list, even though I don't have one. But I've had this idea of making carbon fiber ramps for Space Shuttle for a long time now.

I've been waiting for the SS playfield ever since I got my free one, though compared to Lindsey's PF, mine is in great condition!
Free + a little $$ for PF = OK deal for me, though I realize I'm in the minority.

I have been waiting for the Cyclone PF longer even though I'm not as in NEED of it, mine cleaned up decently after mylar removal but I'd still like a better one.

Man, what was it with Space Shuttle anyway? I've seen a lot of photos of them worn down that bad, way more than any other machine I can think of.

It's a couple of factors (IMO). Very popular and not so great playfield paint/clear. There are lots of other games that typically wear out like Space Shuttle. Flash Gordon, Eight Ball Deluxe, etc... Space shuttle does seem to be one that's impossible to find with a nice playfield though.

That's debatable. I wouldn't count on making money on buying reproduction playfields though. Not installing them in a machine anyway. Even if you make something on your investment it will be all but impossible to make anything for your time. It might be possible to re-sell the loose playfield for a profit at some point in the future. This will probably be possible with the more popular games where there is more demand than supply (like Centaur, Fathom, etc...). I'm planning to buy most of the playfields that are coming out next but how many of them will actually be installed by me is yet to be seen.

In this case I just think it will be cool to take a thrashed $50 game and make it look like new. I think it was $50 anyway... may have been a throw in on a bulk deal. Definitely didn't pay more than $50. I also have a high speed and an NOS playfield but other than that I don't see myself doing a bunch of playfield swaps. Probably Flash Gordon and maybe... haha!
