anyone ever own or just used one of these Heathkit 5230 rejuvenators?

they seem to go pretty cheap on eBay and look newer than the B&K 350 + 400's up for sale. sure i'd like to get a 467-470 but that doesn't look like it will happen any time soon and for the price i could give one of these a try if someone had a good recommendation.

Looks like it's new enough to use on arcade monitor tubes the adapter at the left of the adapter pictures _looks_ like one for arcade tubes equivalent to B&K CR23.

The assembly manual gives part numbers schematics and calibration instructions.

I think would work fine for you.

yeah, i thought the manual would be a big plus in creating additional adaptors (and figuring out how to use the thing,) and one does look like a CR23.

BlindDog did say he picked his 470 off of eBay last year for $60, so maybe i just need to be patient.

I had to build my own connector using an old deflection board. But it works out ok. It's a little tricky get the HK to work, and sometimes it takes a few tries. But it's worked on every tube I've tried so far. It did come with an adaptor to use it on B/W monitors like Space invaders, or Asteroids etc.. I had some major focusing issues on a SI that it took care of really really well. So for $15 you can't go wrong.

Plus it's a good way to check for bad tubes.

good to hear they work alright. i suppose since it's a Heathkit part of functionality may be dependent on the quality of the build by the original owner.

i have scrap neck boards laying around so i could build adapters. judging from completed auctions they usually sell for $40-$50, which i suppose isn't too bad though a bit more than $15. we'll see, i suppose.

well, i found one on eBay for a little over $40 with shipping. it includes the build manual and more adapters than most of the other ones available, with one that looks equivalent to the CR23.

it may take a few weeks to get here. i'll report back once i've gotten a chance to try it out.
