Hey guys, for removing an old CP sticker, does a heat gun work? I used Citristrip once and while it worked well it was a freaking mess, and since this cp is 2/3's wood I'd rather do it a little cleaner.

heat guns the way

I've always used a heat gun. def the way to get things started. then i use lighter fluid and burn the glue off. then a little orange clean. then its ready for painting.

so i used a heat gun to remove the very big stickers off the sides, etc., now you suggest i rub lighter fluid on the cab and set it ON FIRE?!

Do you then sand down the cab and prime/paint?

just curious as i've never heard of this burn method...

Here is my approach.

Step 1: Use a heat gun and scraper to remove the old overlay

Step 2: Use Citristrip to remove the remaining adhesive

Step 3: Use a wire wheel brush on your drill to remove rust

Step 4: Fix any holes and dents (bondo works well)

Step 5: Paint the control panel

Now you should have a control panel that looks brand new.

Step 6: Apply the new overlay

Awesome information, thanks! I wish I had read this before I did my T+F CP, it definitely could have used the bondo step, as a result it has a little trouble staying flush coming over the fold.

I am going to start dissecting gauntlet CP tonight with a heat gun. Any advice for how to properly use it to remove the overlay?
