Headsup: Space Invaders Switching Power Supply "Adapter".

Holy F@CK I feel ass r@ped. :(

Bought one of these expecting it to be an actual adapter with something to take into consideration the reset circuit... uh... nope. It's a f@cking wiring harness with directions that say it...
"... disables all of the incandescent display lights, tilt switch and coin counters. Since the RESET circuit from the power regulator PCB is removed, it will take 2-3 seconds for the game to initialize using the watchdog function on the game PCB."
What a crock of shit. Really... I mean my 8 year old daughter and I have made these "adapters" in 15 minutes out of scrap wire with ~$5 in Molex connectors.

I should have known something was up since there was a lack of pictures or really any kind of pertinent information. I fell victim to my own damn stupidity in thinking this person would put out a quality "adapter" since he seems to be so highly praised.

$41.50 for 11 pieces of wire 10" long, 6 crimp on connectors, and 1 Molex connector.

Whatta complete waste!! !:mad2: Unless you can't do anything for yourself, I'd never recommend wasting your money on one of these. It's ridiculously expensive for what it is... which is 11 pieces of wire 10" long, 6 crimp on connectors and 1 Molex connector.

Jeff - I agree - for some reason I assumed (there is that word, I know) it came with an actual switching power supply for that price and some sort of circuitry to deal with the reset line. I chalked it up to being in a hurry and not fully investigating.

where did you get the conversion kit?

Jeff, where did you purchase this kit?

Jeff, where did you purchase this kit?

I would assume here:
http://www.elektronforge.com/products.htm

Midway Space Invaders Switching Power Supply Conversion Kit
It's an (almost) Plug and Play kit that replaces the original power regulator board (especially useful if your old one has dried out capacitors). The hardest part of the whole installation is stripping the ends of two wires. The kit includes an already assembled, fully labeled adapter harness and the parts required to connect and securely mount a switching supply in your cabinet. The kit does not include a switching supply - those can be found in several places on the 'net for a lower price than we can sell them for. Price: $35

Maybe you need a modified version of this?

Explain please? :)

Did you sign the non disclosure agreement? ;-)

Actually these have been in field test since late last year. One of the guys send me a PM to this thread as a reminder. Time to start checking in with the testers and no news is usually good news.

That is paradise arcade's SI cocktail to JAMMA adapter. It is pretty nice, way nicer than the one I made for my converted SI Part II cocktail:

I slack off too much.... Steve does this hard work, I test it, never finish the testing and..... Ok I'll pull one of the Taito cocktails tonight and give the final verdict :)

They look awesome with a top on them:

I know bust on my for crappy soldering... Here's the funny thing, a year ago I was giving Susan crap about soldering, technique, etc.... now you can tell the difference between us because her technique kicks my ass....

For a doctor, you would expect a better soldering technique! How are you with a cauterizer?

With my SI cocktail I had to add and second edge connector because my SI was converted to Big Kong (Crazy Kong) so it had an extra edge connector with up and down and +12 v.

Haha, I remember being excited and only able to find the large solder spool, but yeah, thisbwas me working quick and dirty.
Don't worry i spend a lot more time in the or than I do soldering. And remember, I do orthopaedics, my hammer in the operating room is bigger than the one my shop. (The broken screw removal kit the hospital has definitely dominates anything I have at home, not that we ever break off screws in someone, well at least we haven't yet today)
And you are off the xmas card list tighe :)

I need to go to an orthopedist, my foot is still in tons of pain when I get up and walk on it after being off it for an extended period. I don't know if you saw my thread, but I was walking on it with a actual fracture and a stress fracture in the metatarsal area for months before I went to a podiatrist. He had me wear a walking cast for about 8 weeks or so. It doesn't feel any better. :(

I was just busting on you, please don't take me off the list! :004_ssad:

Okay this makes much more sense. Carry on.

[dig out old thread]

Can somebody tell me how the brown connector (24 pin) on the right is called?
I'd like to make an adaptor for a switching (arcade) power supply.

Thanks :)

edit: I think I found it.....now I must find a way to pay Bob

If you want to make a power supply adapter for Space Invaders to use a switcher instead of the original board, here is some information.

Connector housing is AMP brand 24 pin "MR" Miniature Retangular, Mouser Electronics # 571-16405150. Terminals for it are Mouser # 571-6405451 (you'll need 9 of them for this).

The connector will plug into the existing cabinet harness power connector which went to the power supply board. The wires from this new connector will connect to the screw terminals of your switching regulator power supply.

The pinout of Midway power connector is:

Pin 1: -5 volts
Pins 2 & 15: +12 volts
Pins 4, 6, 16, 20: Ground/Common
Pins 21 & 22; +5 volts
