Heading to Orlando soon - video arcades?

Oh man, that list did not improve my spirits on that topic any.

Public Arcades are "out" though, right? Private collections is where it's all at these days anyway from what Ive been hearing. Who wants to wander into a public one and wonder if the peeps around them are into these wonderful relics of technology, eh? Collections of games that mean something to the people that own them sounds like a far more enjoyable way to appreciate them.

I would say yes and no. Slowly more and more classic arcades are surfacing. Like Richie Knucklez in NJ. And I know of a few other new 'classic' arcades that will be opening across the US. The classics are back in fashion, to a degree.

Ya know- my brother and I used to go into the Penny Arcade at Disney (when they had one that was worth a shit and not converted into some stupid ass shop) and play those old 10c, 1c, and whatever else they had in there and by then those games were 70-80 yrs old, and tho we had tv- we still liked the old flipbook style machines anyway- cuz u cranked it! Hmm, and ya know I always seem to stumble into current "fads" and here i am recently getting into this obscure hobby- maybe we are on the verge of a little nostalgic comeback fellas!

Thanks, I was being lazy, but I did finally go look it up.

I might try to hit the "last 2 hours" deal.

I did the $41.00 (as I recall). That is quite a deal even if you stay a few hours. I didn't see the "last 2 hours" deal - maybe not advertised. Anyway, at a Dave and Busters one could easily go through the full price admission in a couple of hours. I have some video and pics I plan to post soon.

Definitely worth checking out.

The VR 3-D Pirates of the Caribbean game was great fun.

The Contemporary Resort has a nice huge gameroom. Or it used to be. It used to be packed with classics back in the day. And a sweet shooting gallery. Thats where I first played 720 and Paperboy. You can take the monorail and stop off there and check it out. Be sure to take a bunch of pics where ever you end up.

The Contemporary gameroom was the pinnacle back in the day. That was the first place I ever saw Super Punch Out back in like 87. They used to have a shooting gallery and a cartoonist that would sketch portraits. Place was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately it's only a shell of it's former self nowadays, but it is still better than most.

Doesn't that huge McDonald's on International Drive still have a really big gameroom?

It's not even a shell of it's former self anymore. It's a kiddie playroom, few redemption machines- but no arcade guy need even bother.

BUT- I just remembered! Contemporary Resort has a NEW gameroom on the 4th floor concourse. Near the gift shops. It is not bad. I'd say maybe 30 machines, some pinballs, some redemption- and its great for the older kids as well. It will certainly satisfy your fix.

The arcade at Space Mountain in the Magic Kingdom was not bad. Again, have some pics to post soon. They had a few machines with classic games. Lots of large arcade pieces as well.

I went to the Pizza Planet arcade. I liked the one at Space Mountain better. DQ was the best IMHO.

I think I'm just partial to the whole decor. I love Toy Story and the Pizza Planet really FEELS like an arcade to me. The arcade at space mountain while cool, feels too open.

True. I took some pics of the PP art in the arcade. That did add to the feeling.
