In April 2009 (just over 3 years ago), I sold an Asteroids cocktail to a little ice cream store about 15 minutes from my house. They wanted a cocktail game to use as there front window table. For the first two years, they called me every few months to service it (coin jammed in the slot, buttons sticking, Audio/Reg not working, etc.). I always hated getting these calls because it was clear at the time of sale there was no warranty. But I was a sap and always went and fixed it (for free). It was almost always at least 2 trips, one to figure out what was wrong and one to bring the right parts to fix it.
I hadn't gotten a call in about a year and my kids wanted ice cream last weekend so I thought we'd go to this store (we normally go to another place for ice cream). The game was gone! The person I sold it to (she was the manager of the store at the time) no longer worked there, she moved out to the west coast some where. The person working there said he never saw the game, didn't know anything about it.
So now my headache is gone, why am I a little sad about it all? I think it's because in a weird way, I kept in touch with this game even after it was sold, and then it was gone, like someone leaving without saying good-bye.
I'm certainly happy that I won't get repair calls about it ever again. Still a little sad that I didn't know it was leaving. Even though I hate cocktails.
Ok, I admit it, I'm WAY too attached to these games.
