I'm trying to get the Life force arcade Rom to run on Mame version 0.132 I have been using Mame since 1998, and have been successful in getting most games to run. I have been having trouble with this one though, and I want to play the real thing again cuz I can't stand the crappy Nintendo version. I also checked to see if it was ESA protected, and it's not protection listed, so that's one happy note.
I keep getting a message that it is missing an image or CHD file. If there are any Mame users that understand this message, and can help me out, it would be much appreciated. I have done everything I know how, making sure the zip is in the roms folder, have attempted to verify correct file size by various websites. I do not know if the 93 or 94 kb file ize is correct. I can't seem to find any posts about other people having trouble with this game, and can't find any other releases of the rom other than US or Japan versions. I'm at the brick wall.

Do you have the chd image file? It should be a fairly large file, in the gig's probably. You will need that along with the actual ROM.

Sounds like you need to find the correct CHD file.

I had no idea that game even came out in the arcade. I actually liked that game on the NES. Makes me want to check out the real thing.

Yeah, the real game was much better. You could have 4 options to fight alongside you, the Nintendo one only allows you to have 2. The graphics were also not as pixelated

I type into google for it, but I haven't been getting anywhere that i can dL it. This is very frustrating. I've never heard of having to go get an additional file to go with the rom. We're talking a simple vertically-standing cabinet arcade game from 1986, nothing special there. seemingly anyways...

Lifeforce did not have a hard drive so you should not need a chd file. I would just download a new set of roms.

I have done that, from 3 different sites. None of them seem to work. That's why I researched to find out if it was protected and discovered that it is not. Why would the same rom from several sites all be incorrect? I find it highly unlikely the chances of that. I've tried two different incarnations of Mame: my original Mame32 DL'ed back in fall of '99 won't run it, and neither will my recently obtained copy of Mame 0.137 so the fault is eluding me until I can find someone who can say they can run it, and I can compare notes with them about versions and file types and sizes.

The 94K file you have is not the entire game, it is only the different ROMs between the US version and the Japanese version. The game ROMs are often saved that way to save space for people who like to collect all the versions. The Japanese full version is about 214K in size, and it you download that into your MAME ROMs folder along with the US 94K version, you will be able to play both.

Get the latest version of MAME. download the latest version of CLRMAMEPRO. Run your roms and CHD's through CLRMAMEPRO and see what that says about your collection.

I put both into folder, and they're both highlighted by Mame indicating that they both have problems. I DLed the japanese version earlier and got the same error messages. Rush'n Attack does the same thing with the newest version of Mame, but when I put that into the Mame copy I have from '99 it runs fine.

So how does that work? does it have instructions?

ClrMAMEPro will fix (or alert you to) any problems with your ROMs, but it is not very user friendly. It does come with documentation, but it seems to assume you already know what you are doing.

Make a back-up of your ROM folder before you run it, and you should be fine.

Ok, I dLed it, and yes it seems to be very unfriendly towards me. You say I can scan my entire roms folder? The thing I'm having trouble with is how to tell it which folder to go after. There's no New/file/View/Options/Tools tabs in the window it opens into, so I have no clue how to get it running. I know, I sound like a retard. I've never attempted to troubleshoot one of these things before, just accepted the fact that some of them don't work. But that's before I found out you can fix them sometimes, and that's how badly I want to play this game. I must be losing my mind or something.

I just fired it up on my mame cab, and it works fine... Mame version 119, the rom is 270 kb zipped.

Google "pleasuredome", lots o' stuff there...

Because there are people that just download from a rom website and then use them make their own site.
So if one of the original site had a corrupted rom there might be 8 or 10 rom sites with that bad copy,
