Having some trouble burning some chips for another member

as mentioned ,there's no provision on the top programmer for an external power source

Actually, there is. If you open up the case, you can see that the circuit board has a spot for a 5V connector next to the USB socket. I'm planning on adding one to mine, and seeing if it helps with some of these older chips.

i guess i should have mentioned that there were no provisions visible or accessable from outside of the case, i wasn't positive on there being anything inside on the main circuit board but come to find out there is thanks to zenomorp.

personally i'm not looking to modify my programmer at all so it will stay as it did from the factory (i have no need for the external power for anything as of yet).
