I obtained a nintendo punchout upright game..it has 2 monitors in it the top monitor is the one I am having trouble with...I thought it was an easy fix, but i was wrong... what is wrong with it is, the picture is shifted to the left of the screen..it is missing part of the picture in the top monitor..I thought I could fix it buy messing with the verticle dial, but to my surprise it did not work...is there anything else I could do without changing out monitors..

Not real experienced in this type of thing yet but I'll chime in with my guess with that it sounds like you need a cap kit installed. If possible. Post pics and you will get some real answers from the experts on here. Good luck with getting it taken care of.

Looks like adjusting the width coil may help.

Where is the width coil and what type of tool will I need to use to adjust it... I read online somewhere where is is something like that...I thought I found it but I could not get a allen to turn the coil or whatever it was...The allens I had was either 2 big or 2 small I tried metric and standard...if you want I can take a picture of what I thought was the coil...

Go to Radioshack - they sell a TV tool kit with a bunch of PLASTIC tools used for this purpose. Be advised there is a ferrite core in that coil and over time becomes very brittle. It can take some persuasion to get it to move and unfortunately sometimes that ferrite core break and if it does you'll need to install a different one. The coil is located on the very back edge of the monitor chassis - looks like a spool and is wound with copper wire.

Could you tell me the technical term for the took kit...I called radio shack and they have no clue as to what I am talking about...they said they dont sell anything like that...

Your Radioshack may no longer carry the toolkit. If you have a Frys Electronics they also carry the tools. As a last resort you can use an allen wrench which is a pain the ass. You have to make a small adjustment WITH THE MONITOR OFF, remove wrench and power on. Keep repeating process until satisfied with results. If that ferrite core is stuck, take your time wiggling it back and forth trying to break it loose.

Width Coil

It is the width coil. You can find similar plastic tools used for opening iPod cases, etc. Just take your time and download the PDF before you make small adjustments.

good luck!

Radio Shacks were clearing them out a few months ago so they may indeed be out. When I bought mine the guy at the counter had a puzzled look on his face and commented that he didn't know they had them (I doubt he had a clue what they were for since it was not a cell phone). The kit is called "3-Piece Anti-Static TV Alignment Tool Kit" and its part number is 64-2230. In my store it was by what few parts drawers they had left.

Ken Layton also posted the following:

[other Radio shack part numbers]

64-2220 (5 piece, same as GC Electronics # 8454)

64-2223 (2 piece)

GC Electronics is THE source of hundreds of different alignment tools. You can buy individual alignment tools, assortments, or complete sets containing 50 tools. The two tools that fit virtually all arcade monitors are:

# 8606 (approx 5" long)

# 8606-L (approx 11" long for those hard to reach coils)

Looks like the beginning to foldover on the left. I would suggest that you do a cap kit first.

I ended up trying to move coil, but it did not seem to move the screen but a 1/4" or so...I had it screwed all the way in and screwed it almost all the way out and it really did not affect it but a 1/4" or so..does this mean I will have to recap monitor...will this fix that problem..I thought if you recap it, it will only fix like color issues and line issues not where the screen moved over like that...

Let me reiterate... it looks like the beginning of foldover on the left hand side of the screen, do a cap kit first.

Cap kits fix a lot more than just colors.
