It comes with 20 built in games and plays genesis carts. (the hand held has different games than the tv unit) They are officially licensed from sega. I have done some digging and found that out that both of the sega firecore and retro gen (both made my the same company) have a few issues.

The sound is only one channel and there are some sound issues with alot of games. That problem is more so on the handheld unit though. Another problem is that there are a few sega game carts that wont load on it. And last but not least is the fact that you cant use the game genie on it. And it's made a bit on the flimsy side. I still really like it though.

What do you guys think of theres ? The price is right and they seem pretty cool to me. I might grab the hand held one just for the coolness of playing genesis games where ever i am

The hand-held version is more appealing to me, but the screen may be a bit too small. I could probably play the same games on my DS with an emulator. If you want to play 2-player games, you would have to go with the Firecore.

In my opinion, these are more for the new-gen game players and "retro" thinking folk. But if you're really retro, you can get the real console for cheaper than a Firecore.

Yep. I have a few originals that I play. One that I bought when the Genesis came out 20 years ago. The portable is sweet, too.

Unfortunately the overwhelming majority of genesis games either won't start or have enough bugs that they're totally unplayable with current emulation on the DS. The Mutant League games thankfully run rather well, as they're some of my favorites.

I do still have a Genesis 3 though and fire it up occasionally. The 3 was the little tiny one, looks like the Firecore is about the same size. I think someone here posted a for sale thread taking preorders for the RetroGen Portable, at a pretty decent price, though I can't recall who or the website off the top of my head.
