So, my buddy asked me to ride with him a town over to look at a Do! Run Run thats been listed on Craigslist for the past month that they were asking $75 for. He's new to arcades and I thought I'd help him pop his cherry. He's been wanting a cab he could gut out and turn into a retro media center and gaming cab for Xbox. The pics on Craigslist weren't flattering, and the owner stated the machine made noise, but had a scrambled picture and needed a lot of cleaning and TLC. My first thought was, "There's gotta be something wrong with the board". Needless to say, we arrived at our destination after work to begin the haggling...

The machine itself wasn't in completely horrible shape, just needs a DEEP cleaning, some Bondo and repainting. True to his word, the picture was scrambled, but only because the Vertical was off on the monitor. So my buddy offered the guy $50, guy didn't hesitate, and we loaded up his new machine and headed back. We agreed to strip it out, I'd buy the monitor from him for a different cab of mine, sell the game board and PS and we'd split that, and help him refinish/refurbish the cab.

Once we got back to my house, I lightly jimmied off the rear access lock without destroying anything, plugged her in and set about booting it up and tweaking the monitor. After a few seconds, the picture came in a bit fuzzy and reddish. few more tweaks, and it was perfect. Absolutely perfect, not a touch of burn-in. The game played beautifully, even if it was ugly as hell on the outside. And that's where my bleeding heart nature kicked in. After seeing/playing the cab, I didn't have the heart to destroy this awesome game. So I offered him $25 and an already stripped out old Galaga-style cab I had, since thats all he really wanted..an empty cab. He jumped at the chance, and just to seal the deal with the wife, I had her come outside and give it a go. Ten minutes later, she was all sorts of excited, that FINALLY we had a left-handed game just for her.

So that's my story of how I completely, unintentionally acquired a new game today. And as a bonus, once I got the coin door open...there were $5 in quarters in the bucket :p

So yeah..I technically only paid $20 for a working Do! Run Run :p

I guess you could say my last purchase was sort of unintentional.

During the Giants and Falcons game, I got bored and just started web surfing and ended up bumming through ebay. Clicked maybe like 3 links and found my WOW machine listed by some seller in my city. (was about 6 blocks from me) He had other games listed that had a few bites, while the game I soon went after had none with just a little over a day left on the auction. I wanted to post about it, but was afraid someone would either stoop down like a vulture and steal it, or start a bidding war. Eventually won with only one bid. So glad that crap game was on! The only reason I'm glad the Giants were in the playoffs. :D

Well, I just discovered Do! Run Run is actually a conversion kit, not a dedicated cab..which would explain the Williams style bezel. Eh, now I don't feel so bad about gutting it lol
