Have you ever figured out how many games you'd have if you had everything you wanted?

I spent several hours over several different days pouring through the KLOV list and determining what games I'd want, if I could have everything I was interested in. This is arcade only. Not pinball. Anyone else ever done this? I even created a list. There is a fairly high total of games ranging from "must haves" to "I'd like to have". Anyone else done this yet?

If I had everything on this list, including everything I already own, I'd have roughly 106 arcade games. I already have 24 games including pending deals.

I could probably prune my list by about 50 or so games without losing any sleep. Just for shits and giggles, here is the list:

1942
Baby Pac Man
Bagman*
Black Widow
Blaster
Bubbles*
Bump n' Jump*
Caveman (pinball/arcade - I remember playing this game back in 1983 or so)
Centipede
Championship Sprint (preferably Super Sprint - but not both)
Cheyenne*
Cliff Hanger
Commando
Congo Bongo*
Crackshot
Crazy Climber*
Crossbow*
Crystal Castles*
Demolition Derby
Donkey Kong 3
Eagle*
The Empire Strikes Back
Escape of the Robot Monsters
Excitebike
Frenzy
Front Line
Gauntlet
Gun Smoke*
Gyruss*
Hypersports
Inferno
Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road w/ Trak Pack
Jack the Giant Killer
Kangaroo
Kick
Major Havoc
Make Trax*
Mappy
Mario Bros. Widebody*
Mat Mania
Millipede
Moon Patrol*
Mr. Do*
Mr. Do's Castle
Ms. Pac Man*
NBA Jam
Out Run
PacMan
Paperboy*
Phoenix*
Pole Position*
Quantum
Rally X
Rampage*
Scramble
Smash TV*
Spy Hunter*
Star Wars*
Super Bagman*
Super Cobra
Super PacMan
Super Sprint*
Tempest
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Tiger Heli
Time Pilot '84
Toobin'
Total Carnage
Track & Field*
Vanguard
Warlords cocktail
Wild Western
World Series Baseball*
Xenophobe
Xevious
Zoo Keeper*

I know this list is insane. Also, the odds of seeing some of these games is slim to none, such as Inferno. But for fun, I have my list. The * represents games that I played a ton as a kid, and I consider high priorities for my collection.

I'm really interested to know if anyone else has a "list" that is exhaustive like this, and would love to see the lists. There are just so many great games. I think part of the fun of the hobby is that there is always going to be something to look for.

if i could have everything, i'd probably have maybe 25, not including pins. basically the 10 or so that are in my sig, plus all the ones i'd probably set my sights on after acquiring the stuff i'm looking for right now.... but who the hell knows. someday it could be a lot more than that...

Well, like I said, I could probably prune that list by at least 50 without any regrets. My list assumes absolutely no space considerations, which will never happen. I created the list because as I've been part of the hobby, there have been two or three games I had totally forgotten about before someone mentioning it and my then looking it up. One game I bought recently. Anyway, I wondered how many other gems I had forgotten about after all these years, so I poured over the listings on KLOV over the last few months when I had time to think about it. I even reviewed the list again and could probably prune it even more. Ideally, I'd have a basement big enough to hold 50 or so games. If we ever move back east, it will happen. A large, 2000+ square foot walk-out basement for games, a pool table, and a bar area are requisites for our house back east, should we move. The list helps visualize the dream.

To answer your question yes i have made a list like this. My reason for it was if i found one of said games come up locally and showed my wife I would get a "you never talk about wanting that game" then i refer her to my document on the computer showing it on the list and the computers last modified date stamp.

Over the top prolly but has been helpful in the past lol

My keeper video game # is 110. I can share this: Too much space CAN be a problem. I've bought games I don't even play but other people, especially my kids and their buddies play them. Plus I've bought a bunch of games in the last year specifically for parts to keep or get other games going. Since I have the opportunity to travel fairly often, with trailer in tow:), I get a chance to pick up a games from a pretty wide region. I really don't have a lot of 'want to get' games on my list. Most of the games I want I have, NOW getting and keeping them running is another story.

I started a list like that just to try to focus my collecting. It hasn't helped. All that happens is when something that is on my list shows up locally, I go "damn! that's is a lot of money". One of the problems in the Houston area is that there are several retail game vendors and everybody on CL uses those prices to set the prices for their "it worked great last week" POS machine.

Needless to say when I use those prices to set my "fully restored and working 100%" machines, all I get are a bunch of whiners complaining that I am totally unreasonable and will I take 75% off the price?

If I could I would open up an arcade, all machines on free play and just a one time entry fee.
I would include old and new, from defender to MK3, it would be a blast but I'm dreaming again, silly me, back to reality.

I'll just settle for what I would wanted to have back in 88, when I would own a house with enough space, like one large spare room or a garage that could house 10 cabinets:

1: Space Harrier sitdown.
2: Outrun Sitdown deluxe.
3: Super Hang on Sitdown.
4: Rolling Thunder.
5: Xybots.
6: The Ninjawarriors (3 screen, oh yeah!!!)
7: Kung Fu Master.
8: 720.
9: Marble Madness
10 Paperboy.

I've got an excel file somewhere with every game listed that I'd like to own someday. I went to 1985 (not much after that that I like) and I had about 96 games listed....

If I had only the games I really wanted, I'd probably have fewer games than I do now ;)

I have lots of games that aren't on my want list, mainly because they were free or very cheap and I figure I'll just trade or sell them later after I fix them...

Wow. Surprised no one answered with this, yet...

All of them. ;)

Yeah, I was just gonna say....one of each!!
(And a pinball game, to show that I'm not prejudiced.)

I feel like the law of diminishing returns applies to videogames and pinball machines. I've been in some large gamerooms, and it's too hard to get into all the games. I usually pick one or two to focus on for the visit.

I'm sure there's been a thread about this before... but I think keeping a written "top 10 must-have" list is a good idea for a collector (like myself) wanting to draw a line. (This is what a lot of people call their "GRAIL" list but there can only be one grail game IMO). There are just TOO many interesting games out there that are "interesting" or that have some sort of sentimental value.

Same here. I don't have a specific list of games, just an ideal picture of what would be in my gameroom arcade-wise. It would consist of 3-4 vids (one each driving and shooting), 1-2 pins, and 1 EM shooter/flying game.
The rest of the gameroom would be mostly non vid/pin electric coin op gameroom staples - foosball, pool, darts.

That's all I want regardless of my working area. I have no desire whatsoever for a Luna City style arcade. I don't have time to maintain all that!!!!!!!

If I could have every game I wanted I would have every game ever made because if I could afford all of them I really would like to have them. Even the games I don't enjoy playing that much.

There are just too many good games to try to collect them all in their dedicated cab form. You'd either have major space issues or be left yearning for games ya had no more room for. To attempt to get around this predicament, I try to only collect dedicated arcade games with a unique control scheme (SH), special monitor (vectors, punchout) or other non reproducable trait. For games using a standard 2/4/8 way joystick & standard monitor Like DK, etc, I just collect the PCBs, then swap them in and out of jamma candy cabs when I want to play them.. A notch below playing the true dedicated cab, but a step up from emulation as you are playing the true game pcb and it saves space. However even with these restrictions I'm still pushing 18 dedicated games + I'm still eyeing about 6 more *sigh*

I have made a few lists it always changes mostly just adding more and more. As of now I will have to think about it and get back to you. I really don't feel like writing that much tonight LOL.
