Have you ever damaged a game out of sheer carelessness?

I remember back when I first bought my Pole Position, I was changing the lightbulb right after I got it in my garage. I unscrewed the marquee from the bottom (I dont know why...) and took off the marquee and changed the bulb. Then I put everything back into place holding it with my hand. I realized I left the screwdriver on the ground, but forgot that I was holding the marquee. I let go of it and in a split second, I realized the dumbass move I just pulled and I doubled back, trying to catch the falling parts in a frantic fumble. I caught the bracket, but the marquee landed face down on the cement with a big POW!!!! Needless to say that wrecked my day, but luckily I was able to snag an even nicer replacement off ebay for $5 immediately.

So have you ever damaged a game out of carelessness or lack of attention?

i was trying to move my pole position up 3 step form garage to kitchen, and it is awkward as all get out to handle since the top slopes back so far.

i busted the back door in and the lower back, fail

forgot I put a g07 chassis ontop of a game. moved the game and it shattered a dig dug cocktail topglass.

That was it for me, I put all of my cocktails up for sale.

I have just about dropped a TacScan off a UHaul ramp twice now. Those beyotches are heavy.

I replaced the overlay on my Playchoice dual monitor cab with a nice NOS cpo. Looked beautiful. I put the control panel back on the game then went to take off the marquee to change out the bulb that had burned out. Dropped the screwdriver while taking off the marquee bracket screws and it landed pointy side down right in the middle of the new overlay. Only a small ding but of course it had to happen not more than 15 minutes after I finished installing the new overlay onto the cp.

Although, I didn't damage my game...

I was testing the monitor in my MB cab without securing it down and without the backdoor in place. I figured it wasn't sloping enough for it to slide out. I went inside to grab something and, when I came back out, the monitor had slid out and fell to the bottom of the cab. I freaked out when I saw it sitting there.

What saved it was that the cab was close enough to the wall that the monitor hit the wall first before hitting the bottom of the cab. If it had been in the open, it would have landed on the concrete for sure. I'm lucky and surprised the neck didn't snap or break. The monitor is still working 100% with no damage. Thank God for neck guards. Although, I have a gash on my garage wall.

Me = Idiot

Most painful would be my Turbo Sub. I was loading games to take to CAX and wanted to do a quick marquee bulb change. It has the Star Wars style marquee (wood frame with glass). Swapped the bulb out and had put the allen bolts far enough away from the cabinet and had already positioned the marquee. I didn't want to take the marquee off just to pick up the bolts....so I positioned the marquee brackets to where I thought it would hold. I only let go of it for a second to reach for the bolts and the damn thing comes crashing down....shattering the glass and breaking the F$%k out of the particle board frame. ARGH!!!

The next hour would be spent gluing the frame and clamping it back. Thankfully the graphic survived but no glass to keep it rigid. I think I used every imaginable cuss word that day....made up a few too.

This one is going to be a long list

I did not damage anything but too add to a dum ass moves we made

I was holding a go7 monitor with the screen facing my belly and asked some one to discharge it....

They clipped a leg to the frame and discharge the HV..

I did not drop the monitor but we both laughed for about a half hour

Killed my space invaders.I had this idea that if you can hook a color monitor to space invaders, surely you could hook it to the rgb of a tv bypassing all the tv crap. It's so simple i can't believe nobody thought of it before.7 wires to choose from,i picked some wrong ones and in hindsight,i sent 85 volts into the video output of space invaders.I threw the tv away quick before i got stupid and tried it again lol.
Space invaders got revenge you could say. After a long day at work i decided i'm going to work on SI and maybe fix this video issue.I decided to hook it to the rca jacks on my tv.slid the wires into the monitor connector carefully making sure i have them in the right spot. When i set connector down the wires slid out,so i picked up the connector different than i had it before, put the wires in what seemed to be the same two spots and POP , something blew up in my tv.I sent some unknown voltage to the video in on my tv.
It all worked out,i have been wanting a new tv and now i have one lol.

Ever forget to lock down the CP and move a game to have the glass bezel drop inside the game? The glass explodes and you spend hours cleaning tiny broken pieces of glass..there is probably still some in there some where.

Yep. I was moving a couple games I had bought. Both JAMMA beaters that were not valuable. One was a converted MK that the guy said played blind. Well, the monitor was good, power was not connected for it. Two were crammed in the back of my van and I was sliding it on it's back and of course it didn't have a back door. One side was on a sandbag in the back of the van and then it slid into the open back of the game and cracked the tube on the monitor. Sounded like someone was letting the air out of a balloon. So the "bad" monitor that really did work...I turned into an actual bad monitor...

I keep bumping my head into the neck board of the monitor in one of my games while messing with it, thankfully not hard enough to do any damage yet, but I gotta figure out a way to stop doing that.

Closest call to killing something out of sheer stupidity actually happened this weekend. I was dropping a Soul Edge v 2 into my jamma fighter cab. Wanted to tune the power supply voltage down a bit before putting the board in as I had to run it about 5.15 for my MK. Brought the voltage down then without remembering to turn the cab off again, plugged the Soul Edge into the jamma connector. Further stupidity didn't make me immediately stop when I saw a small spark. Finished connecting, saw the monitor come to life and went "oh shit". Thankfully the board works fine, but I can't believe I was that dumb.

I was moving a newly-purchased Joust game into the semi. Didn't occur to me to open the game to make sure everything was secured inside. Tilted the game back on the dolly, felt something heavy shift inside the game, and suddenly I have bits of broken glass blowing out the air holes in the back. The guy I bought it from said, "I guess my tech forgot to bolt down the monitor when he was done. Oops!" . It was a brand-new 19" monitor, too.

I was transporting a Cheyenne for an operator I worked for at the time. It was about a 45 mile trip one way to the location. I had checked out the game before moving it so it was ready to go. On the way, I rear ended a car (low speed impact in a turn lane). No damage to truck but a little to the other vehicle. Took care of that and continued on the drive to deliver the game - big mistake. Get the game over and into the location (a BEQ on a navy base) and the machine is dead. I was already flustered from the accident so loaded the game up and brought it back to the shop. Turned out the impact had loosened up something on the board so a re-seat got things working again. That was a temporary damage event. :)

I dumpped a Stargate UR off the side of a lift ramp on a Uhaul at the top right before getting it into the truck. Does that count? It still worked after the 3 foot drop and was already kinda beat, so you really couldn't tell. :D

Seeing as pole position seems to be a common theme here. I was picking up a pole position with no back door. So in an attempt to lean it back onto its wheels, I put my foot on the bottom of the back of the unit where the door would go... applied pressure to tip it back and my foot went right through the wood, ARII, and into the power supply! .. DOH! :D

Years ago, I took all the guts out of my Dig Dug to try to clean out the mousy smell in the cabinet. Like a dumbass, I had the control panel sitting on my bar stool in close proximity to the G07 on the floor. I bumped the stool by accident and in an instant the picture tube died a horrible death. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Worst sound I have ever heard.
