Have you ever beaten a personal best without trying?

Was in my mini-cade tonight and I broke my personal best on Omega Race, 181,950! I was really more interested in ZZtop's Doubleback on my playlist than anything, and I was just screwing around on the game, barely halfway playing until I hit 110,000 and started to pay attention. Anyone else experience this? Decided to not to play the game again...would you believe it was also my first game on the machine?

It always comes back to tron for me since that is the one game I am very good at.

When I got into the hobby in 2007 I bought a tron cocktail and I always complained that the joystick didn't go 8 way (which it didn't) it went 4 way, and my best score was like 600,000 something.

When ctozzi bought the tron in vegas, which I bought from him, which brentradio held for me for 4 months, which avidgeek hauled from vegas to citrus heights ,which I then picked up. ;)

I scored 700,000, the first game, more than that the 2nd and 1 million the 3rd game. Then quit because I was so bent that the game rolled to zero at 1mil. I had 1,002,000, didn't crack the top 10.

so I wasn't really trying, but the new setup (8 way capability) lent itself to a good game.

Seems like I only do well if I don't notice that I'm doing well. Strikers 1945 is the biggest offender here. "Herp derp dicking around... wait it's level 5 and I'm still on my first life! WHOAHOLYSHIT" *BLAM* "Ah fuck!" and then I wind up continuing before level 8 :(

That seems to be my case with Berzerk, I like the game anyway so I play it a bunch. However when I go and try to beat my high score, I do horrible, if I just go play it to have fun, that has been when I set my best scores.

My friend Jay had the high score on my Discs of Tron game, 66,600 or so. I was having trouble breaking it for a few months until one day I was fooling about while drinking (ok, I was drunk!), and managed to double his score. Also set a couple of other personal records on my games that evening. Crazy!

I was always horrible at Pole Position...high score was about 33k. One night, my girlfriend and I had a few friends over for drinks and games and on the first play I scored 53,000. I wasn't even trying until lap 2.

Yup...drinking is key! Half-assed a game on Turbo upping my 24,000 to 32k or so. Also bumped my personal best on Journey from 97k to 132k immediately thereafter.

Not sure why, but usually my best game is within the first 4 plays of a game. Anything after that is usually around 50+ plays to get a better score. And yes, I usually get a high score without trying. When I try, I suck.

Related update. I was playing Berzerk tonight and I got 11,530 points! I was playing one last game before I shut it down for the night! Wasn't even trying to beat my high score and I did. My previous high score was 9,730!

broke 200k on spy hunter just testing a repaired pcb. Ended up quitting with a couple of cars left, as my phone was ringing.

Sounds like a game of DK I played a few weeks ago. I only had about 10 minutes and planned for a quick game, but beat my personal best by two levels! I was late and had to end the game with another jumpman left. :(

Ditto for Mario Bros. last year.

One time I played my Bromley Little Pro just to show my friend how the game worked and I golfed a perfect game - nine consecutive holes in one. Have not been able to do it since!

Yea it takes some of the edge off.

Usually I do the best when I'm not really paying attention.

That is completely true for me. I've been trying to beat my high score in Berzerk all night and I just can't do it. Because of that I'm tense, I know if I could just go and play a game and not care about the score I would probably get a high score.

Yep! The other day i was playing a Defender to test it out to see if it was fixed. Wasn't really paying attention, then I lost my last guy and realized I'd gotten over 5000 pts!!! Wow!

Defender sucks...

I turned on my Kozmik Krooz'r today. I've owned it for a couple of months and played it 5 times at the most.
anyway, dropped 176,300 on it. kicked ass. 4th on TG, but I think I could seriously run at that WR.
