Have prices always been this high on GCN games?

Long story short, my younger bro got robbed earlier this year and lost everything including his gaming collection.

He recently attended the Zelda Symphony concert and it sparked his need to play Windwaker again. He said he's been looking and can't find it for a decent price. I'm like, "Just eBay it!" and he told me to check eBay.

I check eBay and the going price (not BIN) is like $50-60. Really? When did this happen? I remember not long ago when GS was still carrying GCN games, they were like $20-25 used.

Well, I found a copy at a used bookstore today for $32 and that was a "deal" apparently for someone not willing to check eBay BIN every 5 minutes.

At least my bro will be happy. :)

I can't comment on the prices, but I can comment on why the GameCube is abbreviated GCN.

The official name for the console is the "Nintendo GameCube"
In Japan it is actually abbreviated more properly as GC.

However here in the West, Nintendo still wanted to promote their name more, so they mandated the abbreviation to include the big "N". They originally wanted to use NGC, but I believe that it was already trade-marked; so they went with the next best thing... GCN.

Ironically, my bro just found Windwaker for $28 at another Half Price Books location closer to him.

Now I feel ripped off. :D

I checked Mario Kart Double Dash which I got used for $15 shipped a few months ago. Now it's in the $30-35 range.

I guess when GS stopped selling GCN games, prices went up? Should we buy up Xbox and PS2 games before they go away? Or is it true GS is bringing back used old school games they have stored away in warehouses?

I still have my copy of Double Dash and I actually played it last week.
I had to break out the old Gamecube controllers, but it worked just as I remembered on the Wii.
I think I like it better than the Wii version???

It's funny, I hated Double Dash when it first came out, but now I find myself loving it. And some of the tracks actually look better than their Wii versions in my opinion (DK Mountain, for example)

I know there is a hackish way to play it online using WarpPipe, but personally I have not had good success with it. That being said, I do miss using the Wii Wheel when I play DD.

i still love my ol' GC system.......

its hard not to love it when my fav game of all time came out first on this system...... RESIDENT EVIL 4 ...... 2 discs of pure heaven. first time capcom introduced the mercenaries missions too which were nothing but pure awesome.

I think the console war might be vastly different if Nintendo had implemented the Gamecube design for its N64. Obviously the processing power wasn't there yet, but the GC controller looks much more appealing and I would argue plays a lot better. The CD drive debacle has already been discussed to death of course. Everything about the Gamecube looks like a more natural transition from the SNES than the N64 was.

I'm hoping with the next handheld that moves away from DS (Miyamoto stated that the 3DS would be the last of the DS family) will be hardware capable of playing Gamecube quality titles and maybe even offer Gamecube titles for download. Oh man, that would be so awesome. We may be a generation or two away from that though.
