I built a 1xxx-1 multi for a friend a couple of years ago and he recently complained that his machine was broken. Came by to check it out and realized the boards main atx power supply was dead. No big deal. I have several laying around so figured it would be an easy swap out.

Plug the replacement ATX into the board and then into the wall. Fire everthing else up and the power supply runs for a couple of seconds and then stops. Turn off/on and nothing. I un hook it from then PCB and plug it directly into the wall and nothing. I start to think well maybe that supply was broken. So I grab one of my new/unopened atxs. Hook it up and the same exact thing happens. I've done this now 4 times. 4 new/working atx's have been hooked up and died inside this machine.

I've troubleshooter everything. I've never had one of these ATX's go bad let alone then first time ive plugged them in. I've tried several different power cords and have the same issue. Everything else plugged into then second power supply works fine. Both power supplies are plugged into then same surge protector.

Am I overlooking something? It's strange they just stop working. No popping noise or crazy spark. Just dead. It's driving me nuts. I pulled the PCB and put it into another machine and everything is fine.

Sorry for any typos. Posting this from my phone.

if the pcb works in another machine, thats good, one less thing.

the first thing id check is the coin door wiring. a dead short there can murder your supply.

id check that wall voltage to make sure somebod didnt hook 220 up to it or somethng..

Always eliminate the silly first...

Try the game in a different outlet. The wall outlet could be faulty.

As for the power supplies - open them up and you should find a fuse in there.

Good luck!

Is it the blue board, aka blue elf board? The outlet may be the issue, I plugged my board directly into an outlet once just to see if it powered on. It did and I shut it off and never powered on again, blew 2 atx boxes out doing that.

I would also make sure nothing got loose, and check all the connections especially around where the atx plugs into. I had an issue on mine were one of the white cords popped out of the molex connector. I would also plug it into a power strip and not directly into a power outlet. Another important thing to do with those boards, is to install a shutdown feature that safely powers down your board without frying your board, or HD. Because it would be like unplugging a PC while it was running, that is what it is basically.

No I fully understand the shut off mode on these boards. That's not the issue. I have two power supplies plugged into a surge protector inside the cab.

ATX 1 powers the jamma side of the PCB, monitor, and lights.

ATX 2 peers the 20-pin on the PCB.

ATX2 is the one I'm having issues with.

What know is...
-PCB works in different machine.
-Wall outlet and surge protector work fine.
-ATX 2 does not work when plugged into different outlets.
-Tried different power cords on ATX2 with no luck.
-Tested all pins on ATX2 w/ multimeter and nada.

Five working ATXs have gone in and stopped working immediately. I've built installed over 50 of these 1xxx-1s and never seen anything like this. I'm so frustrated.

Oh you're using a ATX power supply instead of a regular arcade PSU. I missed that part,
I have no idea now lol. Good luck and please let us know if you find a solution.

ok.. i wonder if the supplies are fighting each other..

does the pcb have a molex on it that your power supply#1 hooks to along with the drive, etc?

if so mabye power is backfeeding to the edge connector. id check how this cab is wired versus your working cabinet.

when you tested the pcb in the other cabinet and it worked, was that with the drive your trying to use in the offending cabinet? if not mabye the drive is shorted..

i duno man.. just thinking out loud..

only thing I can tell you without seeing the wiring. Just run the board off one ATX. Just use the good working one and hook the 20 pin into that and then just take one of the extra HD power cables (+12V, Gnd, Gnd, +5V) and run that directly into the Jamma harness voltage wires. I do that all the time and it works great and saves you the price of one Atx. Also that way your PS's aren't fighting each other.

most likely the motherboard is telling the psu the power is faulty, and shutting down.. you may need new caps on the pcb.. i bet if you wait 15 minutes, it would fire back up for a few seconds and then shutdown.
