So I've been wanting a Haunted House for a while but I've been a little scared of them since I've heard about all the mods you have to do to get them/keep them working.

I found one for sale the other day and wanted to get opinions on what the seller said and your thoughts on the price.

seller original ad said:
...in mostly original condition with its original plastic set. All plastics are present. One plastic has a chip and another has a crack. I have added plastic protectors to safe guard the plastics from damage. The game also has "Cliffy" hole protectors added which look great. Lots of pins were replaced in the wiring harness to ensure proper operation. The backglass is perfect. The cabinet is bright and clean. The playfields are in good shape. The bottom playfield is the best which is usually beaten up on these games from game play. The main and upper playfields do show some wear but are better than most.

I emailed for more info and they said this:
Some of the ground mods have been done. To be honest, most are not necessary if your pins are good (which they are). The vertical up kicker is still original (no pop bumper board) but the coil has been upgraded. As a result, the ball doesn't get stuck. All the pop bumper boards are modified and the big filter capacitors have been replaced.

They are asking $1700.

Guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about. If it's a keeper pin, go for it! If not, haggle on the price. :)

The vertical upkicker is the biggest PITA on this one. If the seller has done the fixes he has mentioned, then you shouldn't have too much trouble with it. I have a Haunted House and love it.

I would love to find one of these. If he has in fact made the mods mentioned I'd go for it. It would be a keeper for me.

Heh, just found the ad, looks nice. If you buy it and don't like it, keep me in mind...

HH is getting up there in price. They can and do change hands for $1600. Not an unrealistic price if its a very nice looking game. Location is everything. In Chicago it would get scooped up.

I missed one here several months ago for 1400.00. Check some of the other threads here lately about pin prices and availability...prices are going up, especially for games like HH.

Haunted House has always been a pricey title, even before pins ballooned in price. I'd say $1500 is a fair price for the game in that condition, but you're dealing with someone who has put hours into the game, so it's tricky...

bought it! It was very nice for the most part, worked very well, had some wear on the upper pf here and there but nothing too bad. We agreed on $1450, which made me happy not only because I think it's a good price but because I got it cheaper than the one I passed on at the last captain's auction which was in slightly worse cosmetic condition and had the ball stuck in the upkicker.
