i am currently trying to do the haunted house ground mods. i have read a few sites including pinwiki and i had a few questions because i have never done this before.
my understanding is......each board in the head of the game (6 total) each have to have a ground that goes to the metal bracket that holds the board with the heat sink on it?
then is that metal bracket supposed to have a wire ran down through the cabinet and connected to one of the silver braided ribbon grounds in the bottom part of the cabinet?

also.....is it safe to turn the machine on after i did 1 or 2 of the grounds? or do you have to do them all at once?
thanks

The general idea is just to ensure the ground for all the boards are all well-connected. The original design did not use any common chassis connections, but instead relied on grounds in the myriad of connectors... connectors which are notiorously unreliable. If there is not a good (low resistance) ground connection between the boards, a significant voltage drop in the ground line can occur.

They don't all "have" do be done all at once--they're not new connections, just redundant to the ones in the inter-board connectors. The most important ones, IMHO, are between the power supply, CPU board, and driver board.

Instead of just doing things because "people" think it's a good idea, you can also measure the ground at each PCB, relative to the strip in the bottom of the cabinet, so how good the grounds are.

ok..i think i messed something up. i was reading on pinwiki and i soldered 2 of the boards. 1 is the small sound board and the bigger one below it on the left side of the head.....now i powered it on and the machine wont work. i only unplugged 2 connectors total....and plugged it back in and now it wont work.....when i power it on all the lights come on but no displays come on and it wont reset like its ready for you to start a game? what did i do?

yes i definetly broke this machine. i should not have messed with it. it was working fine and now it wont work at all.
i removed both grounds from the boards and now the game just lights up. nothing else happens. and none of the displays will come on. i checked all the fuses and none look burnt or bad. i dont see any other bad or burnt components on any of the boards
