A friend and I are planning to take a trip up to the East Coast, flying there and then driving back home to Texas. On the way back, I am going to be picking up a Space Ace from a buddy in PA and was wondering if any of you had any recommendations on what I could rent that would be able to fit the arcade if I laid it down on it's side. Would prefer to not have a truck b/c of weather. Is there an SUV or a minivan out there that would work well that someone has experience with?

I use my YukonXL often when the weather is bad. The 2nd row lays down flat and the 3rd row can be removed and set against the front driver & pass. seats. That could get pricy from a rental company. I would probably rent a Chrysler Mini Van. Those have the Stow-N-Go seating....... I'm in the car biz......

Not sure about that but make sure you remove the LD player if it's not mounted well. At the very least, I'd take the laser disk out.

Chrysler Town&Country or Dodge Caravan will do. I have hauled many a game in a Caravan.

Be very careful if you rent from one of the car rental companies. I have yet to get what I reserved. I recently hauled a game from outside of Tulsa to Houston. I reserved a full sized Mini-van and got an Edge. It fit, but I needed to move the passsenger seat all the way forward. The other issue with mini-vans/SUVs is that there is not a lot of cargo storage for your luggage when they are stuffed with a game.

Given relative prices for one-way fees on rentals, you would be better off making arrangements to have NAVL pick it up and haul it for you. Just set the pickup for a day you are at your buddy's, so you can watch them load it. Then rent a fuel efficient car and put the laser disk in the trunk.

The cost differential between renting a mini-van one way vs a car one way and the gas differential should be really close to the price to have NAVL haul it for you. Then you don't have to sit and worry about it and you can ride with your firend in reasonable comfort.
