Has anyone used a Robotron overlay and panel (keeping original Robotron joystick position) for a multiwilliams setup? If yes could you post some pics?

Looking at the Multiwilliams graphics it looks like the left joystick is shifted to the left more than where it is located originally on Robotron.

I am actually in the process of converting (well ... not really converting) my Robotron to play the MW board.

Everything will remain original in the cab, but I am putting in a switcher and a JAMMA harness so that I can play the MW board for awhile. Limited space and great products like the jrok board keep forcing me to make decisions like this.

Anywho ... I decided to NOT do anything permanent to my Robotron control panel and I bought an unpopulated Joust control panel from someone here (can't remember who). I am going to use that for the MW set-up and simply hang onto the Robotron control panel for one day when I turn it back to a dedicated Robotron.

Not sure if that totally answers your question, but it does give you some other ideas/options ...

Good Luck with your project!

There's multiple reasons why to leave the original panel alone. The main one is because it's original.

Also - youa re correct the joystick placements are different. "Currently" *coughrikitikicough* there are two MW CPO's out there. Both require a specific hole location be used. The two mentioned are the Phoenix Arcade CPO and Arcadeshop.

Either pony up the money and buy a CP from AS or find yourself a used CP (Stargate Joust or RT), bondo the holes and drill new ones to match what ever CPO you deside to go with.

I was planning on using a hacked or build a new control panel and not destroy the one I have. I picked up an empty Robotron cab awhile back and have been considering putting the JROK board in it but wanted to keep the overall Robotron theme. Just wondering how the layout would work and look using the original Robotron joystick placement and a robo overlay. I guess I could try using a picture editor with the robo panel and edit in the buttons.

Your button layout would be horribly cramped and quite honestly awkward if you tried using the original joy positions.

You could always make your own and have one of the printers print it up. I always liked this one that shilmover put together a while back. The sticks are not in the original location, but it still sticks with the original Robotron look:

I have a Robotron dedicated upright, and a MW with a Phoenix Arcade CPO. I have also built a MW with an Arcadeshop CPO for a friend.

Honestly, the shifted joystick position doesn't bother me when I am playing Robotron on the MW. It is nice to have a dedicated Robotron with a correct CP, but it is also nice to be able to play the other Williams games.
