Has anyone successfully removed laminate and saved the artwork below? (Quantum resto)

This is Quantum #510 (cabinet only right now). For some reason white laminate was put over the side art when this was converted to another game in the mid-80s. I first tried a heat gun to soften up the glue and remove the laminate. That did not work out well (photos 2 and 3). Then I just ripped the laminate off with the help of a paint scraper and that worked much better but not perfect (last photo). Is there a better way to get the laminate off and save the side art (I have one side to go!).

My guess is no. Actual contact adhesive that's usually used for applying laminate (what that looks like in your pics) is nasty stuff, and I'd think it would attack the original inks if nothing else. My guess is if the cabinet is solid enough, save the cabinet, use repro sideart, do the best with what you have, and what you have is pretty special. I have a bunch of reference pics if you need any.
