Has anyone gone from vids-to-pins and sold ALL their vids?

Wanted to offshoot from a discussion in another thread...

So - has anyone completely sold off their vids once getting into pins? I've thought about it a few times, cuz I *barely* play my vids anymore. I sold a lot of them, and kept a few that I have major nostalgic attachment to. Sometimes I think I should just sell them all....but, right now, I still have room for them, so I figure no harm in keeping a few.

I had most of my pin friends tell me I would end up selling my vids after buying my first pin, but it never happened. I still have one pin, and the same number of vids I started with.

I don't think too many people would totally abandon vids for pins, if vids are what they played when they were young. Some, but not many.

I have a lot of vids that I don't play regularly and I'd sell them if I could at least get a reasonable amount. By reasonable I mean $400 for a very nice game. It's getting harder to sell these games. I don't need the money but just giving this stuff away after going through the trouble to find it, fix it up and get it looking good, just doesn't appeal to me at all. I'd rather let them sit.

I didn't sell them all but I definitely made the transition from serious vid collector to serious pin collector. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the future I only had a few vids.

I don't think I'd ever go all pins but over time the ratio of pins to vids is going towards pins. Just too many vids that family members and friends like to get rid of them all. Along with the ones I love!

Due to the attitudes of the local pin collector community vice the local vid collector community I almost went the other way. I almost sold off all of my pins just so I wouldn't be associated with those guys. Luckily I calmed down and decided just to not be a part of the local pin community...

I've had the opposite experience though I can definitely see it going either way.

My first four purchases were vids. My last three have been pins. I plan to keep two or three vids for ocassional fun, and guests really like them, but I am not yet putting a cap on pins.

I look for pins pretty much daily, vids just from time to time.

Yeah, I am sure there are assholes in every community. The problem is the assholes tend to rule the roost in the Seattle area pin collector community. What makes it worse is when local vid guys decide they need to be part of the 'click' and fall in line with the nonsense...

Kind of.

I got rid of my dedicated cabs and vector games. Parts are getting harder to find and space was becoming an issue. I built a nice MAME machine and it emulated about all of the games I had including Dragon's Lair. Had that a while and I was the only one playing it. That went and was replaced with a Megatouch Force Radion which gets the snot played out of it when people are over, small foot print too. It's the only vid I am keeping with my 9 pins.

I found a balance i am happy with.

I started with Pins (they multiply fast, i looked up and had over 10). Realized i had ALOT of nostalgic feelings for vids. Because of the space, I sold off a few to get vids. the vids ended up taking over the room.

Then i realized most of the vids werent holding up. Nothing beats Pinball. So, I sold of some vids to bring back pins.

I now found a happy medium - 4 Pins, 5 vids. I am out of room. The vids and pins i "settle" with now are my favorites. I spent alot of time evaluating them all, and decided i cant live without them.

Yep! Vids were my gateway drug. I have many pins and still have alot of vids but I like them too. However I do have a lot less vids than pins.

i'll probably always have a multicade of some sort to satisfy all my old-school gaming needs (just too many games that i like...never would have room for all of them). doubt i'll ever get rid of my golden tee/silverstrike cab either...just too much fun when guests come over. ditto the 4-player cab that i can load a number of games, depending upon my mood.

i did wind up selling my daytona...just haven't delivered it yet. gonna sell off two of my shooters and keep one (carnival king).

when it's all said and done, i'll have my separate arcade room with 5 cabs in it and a wall full of pins (i can probably get 10-12 total to fit...i have 6 now). i'll be happy with that ratio, though i'm probably always gonna be looking for ways to fit more pins in here. lol.

I want to get rid of my vids to make room for new pins. Except I dont want to give up my vids. Nevus, we have a problem. Thank you Mr. climate control storage owner. :)

I had a pretty big collection of really nice, choice vids, but have traded/sold nearly all of them for pins over the last couple of years. I'm currently down to two vids left, and wouldn't be surprised to see those gone by the end of the year.

For me, I just enjoy the pins a hell of a lot more, as I actually PLAY them. The vids of my youth, I mainly just like owning them and looking at them.

I don't know exactly when I became so jaded but I don't belong to any pin or vid club nor do I hang out with any locals on either side. Almost (red that loud and clear ALMOST) every dealing I've had with collectors has been absolutely terrible. The only local KLOV I have any dealings with anymore is Rikitiki, Oregonarcade and Gozer8675309yaddayaddayadda.

I stopped buying from collectors because they want a mint to sell and they want to pay very little. Sound familiar to anyone? :D
What pisses me off is these people know damn well how much time and money it takes to restore something. gah...........

And to get back to the subject. I had 10 vids at one point and am down to 4. I will eventually work my way down to 2 vids and the rest pins. If it weren't for sentimental value I'd get rid of my last 2 vids. Vids just bore me to death now.

That's too bad... I've met a lot of great collectors who've sold me games for reasonable prices. I try to do the same when I sell games.
