Ok, so here is my dilema.. i have a 720 machine and it is not working, i currently have a tech working on my cpu and video boards trying to isolate the problem and looking for replacements at the same time.. when last played the controller is great and the monitor is in great shape...now that mame and multigames seem very popular i was thinking, i wonder if it would be possible to get a cheap pc, put in inside the cabinet, and emulate the 720 roms/game and use the cabinets monitor, sound and controls and just run the game off a computer instead of the old boards? im nowhere near a tech or into doing anything too crazy, but thought this might be a valid solution to this or any old game? any ideas/input?
thanks

Yeah, some people do that... but IMO it's much more work than it's worth, and then you're just playing an emulator (and you've gotta wait for the PC to boot, etc). You should be able to get your boards fixed/replaced for around $100 maybe, and then it's just a swap and play... for an emulator, you'd need to wire in a PC, output medium resolution signal (make sure you have a compatible video card), you'd need an optical encoder, buttons, etc. Of course you can do that cheap if you have leftover hardware and a lot of time, but I'd just fix it right.

keep it original, brother. think of it as saving the whales, except video games are way cooler, and can't be reproduced by mating. ;)

furthermore, I loved this game when we had it when I was a kid, and any and all attempts to play it in MAME have been met with horrendous results. you cannot play it properly unless you have that funky crooked optical joystick.

Toyed around with the idea of doing this for pole position....
