Has anyone ever hooked a game console to arcade controls?

So I was sitting on the couch, playing Dirt 2 on Xbox360 and it popped into my head... Wouldn't this game be so awesome with sit down arcade driving controls? I have 2 Crusin World cabs and they are a blast to play with friends, but get kinda boring quickly and the graphics are clearly dated. I am seriously thinking about how I could mount an Xbox360 in my crusin cab, put in a 33" LCD monitor and somehow hook it to the controls. Is this even possible? With the xbox system link you could link up to 8 consoles so multi player would be awesome! And think of all the different games you could play!

20+ years ago I wired up a Red Ball top Wico leaf switch stick and two leaf switch buttons to my Atari 7800. I still have that controller box and 7800. So, yes, I have. :)

Wico actually made joysticks for consoles. I have a pair of bat handle sticks for my Atari 2600. They also worked on all the Commodore computers (Vic 20, C-64, Amiga, etc). They're built using regular arcade style leaf switches, and the only weak point in them is the cable (just like any other cable with thin wires). They stood up to alot of abuse when I was growing up, whereas the stock Atari 2600 sticks broke way too easily. My mom got tired of replacing them ;)

lol on the 2600 sticks. I think we all broke a few of those. Or at least "chucked" it across the room.

Ah Pitfall......:)

Sure, anythings possible!

My Galaga cabaret will be using an old Nintendo nes system, but with all Galaga cabaret controls, marquee and so on. It will look like a real Galaga cabaret when done.

I used to build cabs for friends with consoles in them. I did one that had 9 in it I think. I built a solid state relay network to switch video and audio from the systems to the cab.

I think it had a 3DO, TG16, Sega MS, Sega Genesis, NES, Super NES, Neo Geo, Neo Geo CD and a PS1 in it. I also left a spot in the cab for STD res JAMMA boards. I managed to get RGB off of all of the systems except the TG16. I dont recall what we did to get video from that one. All of the systems were on pull out drawers.

That thing was a MESS but it worked.

i love that nintendo set up, one of these days i will have the skill to pull something like that off. some of you guys blow me away with cool stuff you come up with. thats one reason i love coming to this site.

I am in the process of turning my trashed Monaco GP cabaret into a multi-console system. It would have at least a 2600(modded Flashback 2), Genesis (maybe that new Genesis game system from Walgreens) and probably ColecoVision, Atari XEGS, and Commodore 64 if there is any room left. Basically ,the systems that used that same controller port plug.
So far I have it stripped of all components, partially painted flat black, Commodore compatible monitor stripped and mounted. Tread plated floor part paint stripped(with Citristrip-awesome stuff), Gas pedal de-rusted(with Evapo-Rust-pretty good stuff). Will do a vinyl wrap and custom marquee back-lit by LEDs and arcade controls.

I had(still have) a Midway(?) cabinet that I got for free back in 1995 or so and I mounted a TV inside and put my ColecoVision inside it and kept it that way for a couple years before I got an arcade monitor and a few boards for it. Now it is my MAME PC entertainment computer.

I have plans to do a driving cab someday, but its going to be with a PC instead of an Xbox. Better graphics, and I'd like to use something like a Logitech G27 which has a shifter and force feedback.

and dont forget the model 2 emulator on your future cab(daytona usa and stuff!!!)

That sounds cool! I really like the Xbox one in the video above but maybe PC is the way to go. I was only thinking Xbox for cost since the last custom gaming PC I build cost me over a grand. You can pick up an xbox for $300.
