Has anyone ever had to modify a cabinet to make a monitor fit?

I'm attempting to get my Neo Geo MVS 4-25 cabinet in working order, and yesterday I went to put the monitor in it and the top and bottom won't slide in. I have a 25" Wells Gardner k7191. I tried removing the bottom brace of the cabinet frame and it seems it's glued or stapled in as well as screwed. Would my best option be to sand some of the bezel area down to get it in?

I was wondering if anyone has had the same issue, or any other ideas. I can provide pictures if it would help.

Thanks

I have had to shave down the wood to make a K7000 fit in four different 4 slot Neo cabs. These cabs all originally had U2000 monitors and even those were a tight fit. I didn't need to remove much wood but it was still more work than I planned for.

I've had to cut slots in the wood of Neo Geo cabinets to trade out different "universal" frame Wells-Gardner monitors. The metal frame brackets on Wells-Gardner universal mounts are in different places on some models/versions thus necessitating some cabinet mods to get it to fit.

I came across some dedicated Neo Geo's that had 25" Hantarex Polo monitors in them.

Ahhh, I see. At least I'm not alone in this venture. What Part of the wood did you shave down, just the bottom of the bezel?

Any pictures? Neo-Geos shipped with K7000 so I would think it would fit.

I'll try and post pictures later today.

I just shaved the bottom portion but I could have shaved the top. There is a wooden bezel that the frame sits on, this is the area I had to shave.

Also, as Ken mentioned, sometimes you need to cut new slots in order for the frame "arms" to fit.

did you loosen the monitor frame bolts and push the frame down? k7000 should fit. If after that, just notch the 4 spots where the frame hits. It would not take much. Also you can move the arms on a k7000, so maybe they just need to be in the other position.

SON OF A BISCUIT! That worked like a charm. I messed with the bolts a little the day before yesterday and didn't even notice that the frame moved. I unscrewed one and it dropped enough just to slide right in.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Ran into this recently with my MVS as well. Originally came with a QNIC monitor, swapped it for a K7000. Everything lined up fine, but the bolts on the far edges of the top/bottom frame didn't have enough clearance. They were redundant, so I removed 'em.

I'll beat the dead horse.. when I did a tube swap on a K7500, I set the frame too tight on the top and bottom. I had to loosen the bolts on the frame to get it to line up correctly in a Blitz cab, then I tightened the monitor bolts.

so yeah, I'll keep this in mind though, I doubt I'll run into such a problem however.

I had a UK model police 24/7 (911) that the 27" monitor blew the flyback on. Problem was, the monitor was some funky contraption I had never seen before, and no replacement was available.

To shoehorn the D9200 in, I had to bend and contort the frame every which way, then lift that heavy ass monitor over the gun pedestal. I did the lift about a dozen times until I got the frame right. My back was sore for days!

I put a 27" monitor in a Soul Edge cab (originally 25"). I had to cut the stringers on the side as well as trim a little in the back to clear the degauss wire for the 27" WG.
