Has anyone done a CPS1 battery swap?

I got a Knights board with original battery that should be ready to die any time now.
Has anyone done a swap to save the game or do most people let 'em die and use
unencrypted roms?

I've got two that I'm about to do. Seems like a huge pain in the ass to let them die and pay for ROMs. Obviously, replacing the battery would be the cheapest route.

By replacing the battery, you're just kicking the can down the road a bit.

I'd take the battery off and use the patched ROMs. Knights of the round appears to only need 1 EPROM, "kru23x.rom". Make friends with someone local with an EPROM programmer and it'll cost nil. I recently did a Captain Commando; just took the original EPROMs out, reprogrammed with the patched code, and re-installed. (And, of course, removed the battery and modded the C-board as well).

+1

This is what you want to do....

Why do you want to put another ticking time bomb that will leak acid all over your game and make costly repairs to it???

CPS2 = pay for ROMs
CPS1 = ROMs available for free on the Dead Battery Society pages.

i looked around a little bit on the dead battery soc pages last week but couldn't figure out if it was saying magic sword doesn't suicide, or just if it does there is no fix... anyone know? i have a formerly working board that all of a sudden just shows a white screen on power up.

Magic Sword doesn't have a suicide battery on it. If you have another CPS-1 "A" board try swapping it with your Magic Sword to find out if your "A" board has failed.

If it still is booting to a white screen the problem could also be the small "C" board.
