I am considering buying one of these to try with an ArcadeSD board.
Has anyone tried this joystick yet?

How does it feel to use?
I currently have a MagStick Plus and like it, but automatic switching would be nice.

Any other thoughts or opinions?

I have a SpinTrak and it's pretty nice. I was wondering how the MagStik is and what kind of setup you use it on.

I love em. Put 2 in a cocktail table. Did have some issues with the type of washers and springs used on the restrictor plate. The springs would slip through the washers locking it up. Had to use smaller washers and widen the base of the little springs. But awesome for any mame cab and if you set it up right stick will change based upon what game is started.

Since you have a magstick, you know the throw is very short. I would suspect this would be the same.

I really like the Magstick,
the short throw works fine for me.
I'm just curious if this one is the same.

The Magstick works great!
Throw is short enough you can even mount it under a Galaga CP using the two way slot and not modify the panel.
I did buy the ball top which added $12 or so.

Mine is mounted in a aftermarket panel with a trackball using www.thisoldgame.com multi-pac overlay.

I've tried all of Andy's joysticks and the Ultrastik 360 is by far the best for MAME. It automatically maps itself for 2-way, 4-way-, 8-way, diagonal 4-way(Q*Bert) and even Analog for Bubbles and Sinistar! Hell, the diagonal mode for Q*bert is reason enough for me.

The feel is almost identical to a Bally/Midway 4-way leaf stick. It really is awesome.

Do you have to use a special build of mame? You using a different spring and restricter ?

No, reading up on the product announcement on byoac, it is a sanwa stick so it will have a longer throw.

I have a mag stik too and really dislike the short throw in 8 way mode because it requires such precision to hit the direction you want.

I love the 360 for mame as well. Supposedly he's going to come out with a retrofit kit for the 360.

BTW, you don't need to use analog mode for bubbles. It is NOT a 49 way game. It is an 8 way game. I'm not sure why that misconception is so widespread.

I've not used a sanwa, but how do you like it for classic game use?
Mainly trying to decide if it will be better for PacMan/DK/DigDug than the Magstick.
I do like the idea of auto switching modes.
The servo stik has a long throw to them. With say pac, dk, burger time type stuff they aren't bad. I notice the longer throw my not be desirable on galaga type stuff. I'm in the process of making a multi williams cab out of a poker cabaret (can't piss anyone off here by doing that :p) but I just received my pair of mag stiks and they have a very very short throw to them. But waiting on a CPO from TOG, so can't do anything with em yet. I can tell I'm gonna like them for defender and others though. But there are tons of sanwa mods on various forums to reduce the throw. I just haven't investigated them because where I used the servosticks is on a SIpII cocktail so it's more of just a casual drink some beers, smoke some weed type gaming table. IMO If you like a short tight throw go mag stick. If you like a longer throw with a more pronounced diamond/square restrict or plate go servo.

I've wondered how these felt, thanks for the writeup. So is the mapping automatic via an .ini file or something?

ServoStik with ArcadeSD

Hey Teknotoyz, Did you ever get the ServoStik working with your ArcadeSD. I use the ArcadeSD quite a bit and would love to know if it works with this PCB rather than a Mame setup via a PC. Thanks!
