I'm trying to decide if I should put one of my JAMMA harnesses(with an appropriate adaptor w/inverter) into my "restored" Donkey Kong or buy one of your DK harnesses.

Of course a Donkey Kong harness will work the best with the original monitor and power supply, but the pros of a JAMMA + adaptor are that the options of playing other games are a little easier and I may change out the monitor for something more modern.(And I already have spare JAMMA harnesses). :)

I'd appreciate feedback of any pros and cons of original and JAMMA that I've not considered.

Thanks.

If you use a jamma harness then you need the inverter board on the original monitor.
Do you have that?
I you will also need to get some connectors to use to connect jamma harness to original power supply or hack in a switching power supply in place of the original one.
I have a 6 in 1 switcher in my DK with 6 boards.
My DK was jamatized when I bought it so I had no choice to keep original plus I only have room for a couple games,so dedicated cabs for each game is not an option.
Here are some pics of mine.

It's not needed if you have a JAMMA adaptor like this: http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=NIN2JAMMA

One would need a power supply that puts out -5V if I remember correctly. I have four original power supplies though. One working, One untested, and now two bad. (Because an eBayer sent me a known bad labeled as "working" when last pulled).

I took out the Nintendo Vs. harness, since I originally received the cabinet as a Vs. Super Mario Bros. game.

That is to use a monitor other than a Sanyo as it converts the video from negative to positive.
Sanyo accepts negative video and other monitors accept positive video.
If you use other jamma games those adapters don't flip the video from positive to negative as the Sanyo requires.
I am using the adapters on my boards hooked up to a Tovis monitor.
You still need the adapters,if using a jamma harness,on non jamma games and if you use a Sanyo the easiest thing to do is use the inverter board.
If you use a different monitor then no inverter is required just the adapters.

Both the original and switchers put out -5 so no issue there.
Looking at the DK power supply pin out,it puts out all the required voltages for a jamma harness.

Use a jamma harness if you are going to swap games.

Well, I didn't need the Nintendo lesson. I learned all this a decade ago when I first got these cabinets.

I'm just trying to make sure I haven't overlooked any pros or cons if I decide to put a JAMMA harness in instead of a Donkey Kong harness.

Well obviously you don't know as much about video inversion as you think.,if you believe you can use that jamma adapter with a Sanyo monitor without using the inverter board on the monitor.+
If you know so much about Nintendo then this thread shouldn't have even been needed.

I never said anything about using a JAMMA adaptor with a Sanyo monitor. I can only assume that you didn't understand the very first post. Particularly the second paragraph.
