I have a DK Jr upright with both a DK Jr and 2-PCB DK board, both of which are hooked up through 6 or 7 individual connectors.

I also have a DK3 and Mario Bros board in unknown condition that I would like to also repair/play on this machine. However, these boards have a single edge connector that appears to be identical to the unused edge connector on both the DK/DK Jr boards.

Can I assume that the assortment of individual connectors can be converted into a single edge connector with no other mods? This would make sense based on how they would have converted the early DK/DK Jr machines to play the later releases. If so, what all is required and where/who can I tap to acquire such an harness adapter?

Thanks in advance,
Evan

DK,DKJR,DK3 and Mario Brothers can all use the same edge connector harness that came in the DK3 cabs iirc.
Mario not to sure about but the others for sure.
Dokert made repro harnesses but they are sold out.
Not sure if they are going to do another run.
The only other way is to use a jamma harness and adapter.

Jim is correct, you may use the DK3 harness for DK, DKjr, & Mario Bros without modification. (Except for the CP on Mario Bros)

DKJ Wiring Adaptor

Arcadeshop.com sells an adaptor that will take your DK3 wiring and allow you to use the edge connector and play DK, DKJ, DK3, Mario Bros, and Popeye. I love mine and it was well worth the price!

If you convert to the edge connector, just make sure you have rainbow cables on the boardsets to get power between the boards or you'll get nothing. - Barry

ninty adaptor

Evan,

Yes that's the one but there are a few things you should know:

1. You will also need to order a rainbow cable to connect the pcb and video board for each game you want to play.

2. Mario Bros and popeye are horizontal games so they will work in your DKJ cab but the cab is a vertical monitor so these games will appear on the screen sideways.

Any other questions, feel free to pm me.

DKJ Adaptor

The 7 connectors all do connect to the adaptor and then the adaptor does go onto the edge connector on the pcb. However, there also is a rainbow cable that you will need (can also get them from arcadeshop for like $10) for each boardset that you want to use. These cables connect the two boards at the P3 connector on the CPU and at P4 on the Video board. I hav attached photos for you as well. Anything else, just ask!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh that's what those "unused" connectors were for on each side. Thanks JimKirk (and everyone else). Now I have a complete picture of what I need.

I wouldn't even mind cranking out a bunch of rainbow cables, as I have plenty of molex connectors and pins...but I have a hunch that buying 10 spools of 20-22 gauge colored wire is going to logically defeat that idea in the $$$ pocket.
