Hardware Failure... Where do I start? Arkanoid Cocktail

At first I was getting a hardware failure message once in a while when powering up the game but now it won't go away. I've checked all the connectors I see. Unplugged and replugged the cords going to the pcb and they look clean. What is the next step?

Here is pictures of its guts. Pretty messy from the pacman convert I'm guessing...

It might be your power supply..if it is the switching PS that's bad, it's an easy fix.

The small silver colored box with all the wires running into the top....one is a ground, one should be 12v, one 5 volt and possibly a -5 volts. With the game powered up, set your voltmeter to dc 200 and put the black lead on ground and the red lead on 12v..do you have 12v? then try the 5 and -5. If you aren't getting them, that's your problem.

Since you said the hardware problem message was intermittent at 1st, it might be because the pcb was getting fluctuating power from a bad ps.

On the other hand, if all your voltages are good, you probably have a pcb issue and unless you are comfortable testing and repairing a pcb, you will need to send it out for repair.

That's too high....did it damage your board is the question. If you look closely at that PS you will see a dial....a red knob there on top...you can actually dial down the power.
Turn it a quarter turn to the left (counter-clockwise) and then power up and take new readings...you can even turn that knob while it is on... counter-click wise will lower the voltage...or at least it should.

Im pretty sure the 5 has to be hooked up for that board to work....it looks like it's hooked up. Maybe the 5 is connected but the MINUS 5 is not?

This appears to have fixed it! Fingers crossed but it started working immediately after :)

Yes, the negative was not hooked up...

Thank you so much! I'll be back if it pops up again but it looks fixed to me.
