Hey guys, I'm starting a full restoration of a Hard Drivin' cockpit. I'm gonna be tackling it all including reproducing the artwork. Here's a start and I'll post photos as I go.

***If someone can provide highly detailed photos of the tail-end graphic it would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm thinking about taking the car body to a graphic shop and getting it "wrapped" like they do cars in the red vinyl vs. painting it for durability. Thoughts?

That was a bad mutha of a game when it came out. I recall it being a $1.00 when it came out. It almost seemed like an event playing it.

Good luck getting that back in shape.

yes it was.. was really the first driving game with "real feel" to it. back int he day i played an upright race drivin at the tilt arcade in nortowne mall. even back then it was like 75 cents i think

I'll take as many pics as I can. It will be a detailed restoration, I'm restoring this one for a gentleman who helped develop this game for Atari back in 1988.

If anyone has parts or can help with the artwork, PLEASE chime in or PM me, this will be quite a task for me on the art portion. I'm not the world's greatest at Photoshop.

Going to Home Depot tomorrow to get some plywood to start rebuilding the cabinet from the bottom up.

FINALLY someone posted that damn center wheel graphic. Awesome! I will have a few printed.

You're restoring this for Jed or someone else? If there are developers of this game out there, let them know we (I) could use some help with a technical/electrical issue, please! The documentation on these games is scarce, and what does exist is very riddled with errors and omissions. Especially the schematics.

I'm also in the middle of a resto, but on a Race Drivin' conversion. I just bought a NOS cockpit conversion kit, including all the graphics, chips, shifter guts and the wiring/plate/etc to connect two games together. What a find!

All I'm needing now is the tire and black/white line section of the side art and I have 100% of the artwork for a Race Drivin' cabinet.

If anyone needs a new shift detent (to get the click back in the shifter between gears), I have 8 or 9 of those lying around. I'd sell one for $15 shipped.

I have that in NOS form, still rolled up in the box. I'll see if I can get a good picture of it soon. I want to have it scanned, but am not sure there's a large format scanning company locally.

I won't hijack your thread, just letting you know there's another one in the works!

I am restoring it for someone else. It's been so long, I imagine the gentleman I am restoring this one for would be of little help on the technical issues.

That tail end graphic would fit nicely on a regular flat bed scanner to scan a portion at a time. I really need that piece so if you would scan it some how some way, I would be really appreciative. I did post that steering wheel graphic for you ;)

I'll take a shifter detent off your hands. PM'ing now.

It's raining outside so here's a small resto before/after

Once I find it, I think I'm going to spray the steering wheel with truck bed liner so it has that "grip" again since it's been worn smooth.

Here's another pic. I did a high-res scan of this PM me if you want me to email you the file. I would like to have it vectorized. Will pay $$

Is there a big advantage to doing a vector vs. just getting it recreated as a flat image? I can't imagine it'll ever be resized (which if I am remembering correctly is the big advantage to vectored artwork), and doing a non-vector (I can't remember what it's called) seems like it'd be cheaper.

Just thinking out loud.

True, whatever is easier I really don't care. I can go in myself and "redraw it" I just thought maybe with vector lines and such it could be done faster. Ultimately, I just need it done one way or another.

Who's the person that would be best to print these files when they are done? The side art isn't polycarbonate covered like the dash overlay or the door panel graphics are. I've heard arguments on the best methods to print stuff like that but I can't remember which way was best.

Also DanoND, do you have the graphic that goes on the back side to make the end look like an engine?

I have the engine-looking black and white one NOS, yes. I think it's more than one piece, I am pretty sure I have all the pieces.

I am less sure about the tailpipe/license plate one. I may not have that one but it should be easy to re-create.

I don't have the wheel/black and white stripe section of the side art. I do have the flame graphics, though from a Race Drivin' conversion kit.

Just to clarify, too - that shift detent is for a Race Drivin'. Hard Drivin' has a different shift lock mechanism that's magnet vs. solenoid based.

Phoenix Graphics would know more than we would about how to print the side art.
