I came up with 5. Alot I was gonna put on the list but since I can finish them I didn't bother putting them as the hardest. What are your thoughts?

Hard NES Games

1. Deadly Towers
2. Robowarrior
3. Athena
4. Kid Kool
5. Legacy of the Wizard

Speaking of hard games I beat Thunder Blade a couple times yesterday on the SMS, never beat it before but now I can pretty easily. The 1st person perspective of level 3 is the only hard level. It gets easier after that. But that's Sega. Let's talk NES.

Here's my top 5, listed in reverse order from less hard to most hard:

5 Double Dragon 3. I could beat 1 and 2 easily, but for some reason, 3 gave me problems even on the first stage.

4 Days of Thunder. Is a very annoying game, especially with the pit stops combined with blatant cheating AI, was a major cause of NES Rage™. You could be in first, make a stop in the pit to refuel or change one tire, and you'd find yourself back in 26th. The AI cars never needed to pit-stop.

3 Mission: Impossible. True to it's name, I could stumble past the first two stages, but stage three, specifically the conveyor belt area, caused me to switch the console off in frustration more than once. To add insult to injury, the final stage can not be completed without knowing about the "fake wall" which was never disclosed, and there was no Internet help back then.

2 Snake, Rattle & Roll. I loved this game, until the later stages. Then the jumps became so maddeningly difficult that the game became more of a chore to me. Then when I did reach the exit, I would find that my snake was not heavy enough to trigger the bell, and I'd die trying to eat more.

1 Amagon. This game will drive a person insane. One-hit death, limited ammo, and the side-scrolling equivalent to Bullet-Hell games. I have never seen anyone beat it without cheats or save-states.

You're #1 hardest game -- Amagon. I finished that game not that long ago, I didn't find it that hard. Kinda flew threw it. I only play on my original systems too. I should make a video and put in on youtube.
As for Snake, Rattle & Roll I do have that game but haven't really played it much. I should give it a shot and see how far I can get. It's made by RARE who also put out pretty hard games such as Time Lord and Cobra Triangle, but the latter two I can finish pretty easy now. Those games seemed really hard until you practiced them alot. I never finished Cobra Triange as a kid (came very close), but I can now.
I do own Double Dragon 1 & 2, I rented part 3 back in the day. I'm gonna have to buy it again, seems like it's on alot of peoples hardest games list.
I'm also gonna buy Silver Surfer, I remember playing it when I was a kid. I did rent it once. I want to try it now and see if it's as hard as everyone says.

Battle Kid is one of the best, and most challenging NES games I've played. It's very well made and could have easily come out on the NES originally. Battle Kid 2 came out a month or two ago and will be sold out until February at least. Q

If you do this, I would love to see it. I was not exaggerating when I said I have never seen anyone beat Amagon without using cheats/tools/save-states. Even the others on youtube all use save-states or infinite MegaGon power.

I really don't think it's possible to "fly-through" Amagon simply because some of the bosses can only be beaten by MegaGon, which means on those levels you usually have to farm the enemies, hoping that they will drop a MegaGon key -- and on the later levels where there are tons of enemies on-screen and they teleport front and back, farming is deadly.

That has been my experience... I would love to see your play-through without cheats... I suspect broken controllers aplenty in your future if you try it. ;)

Did I mention the game has no continues either? Game Over really means game over on this one.

I don't beat on my controllers, I just beat the games! There are alot of bad gamers out there. I read about people saying the original Contra on NES is one of the hardest games.
Sound's like a challenge on Amaon, I just gotta buy a usb extension cable so I can put my webcam in the other room in front of the TV. Placing any bets on this? :)

I hear people say this too and I can't understand how they would think that- its so easy. Once you have the spread gun + rapid the bad guys dont stand a chance. Contra is definitely one of the easiest games to beat in one life.

I did a fun challenge once to see how many times over could I beat contra in one game. I kept the NES on for a week and when I was waiting for something while working I would turn on the TV, unpause and go at it a little longer. I beat it around 8 or 9 times and had earned a ton of extra lives but by now the difficulty of the game is getting insanely hard. Level 1 immediately features many many many running + jumping + shooting troopers instead of the ones that only run. I think the game got reset before I could ever finish my little challenge. I wish there was a game genie code to start the game off this difficult to begin with, its quite fun.

I'm eagerly awaiting this...

Some of the hardest games I used to play quite a bit:

Battletoads - Always reached one point (drain level or whatever) and would lose 15+ lives
Street Fighter 2010 - One death and you pretty much had to start over

JTVK I made the video. It's the first time I ever tried making a video of me playing a game. Worst thing is you can see the scan lines. Anyone know how to prevent this? So tonight I hooked up the NES, and funny thing is before I recorded it I played it first to see how far I could get. I actually beat it alot easier the first time before I recorded it, no lie. When I was actually recording I got down to 0 men at one point, and had a close call at the last boss. I think I might have gotten hit with 1 life bar left as I killed the last boss. Anyway I did finish it without game over on the original NES. Check it out and let me know what you think. I might make some more of them and post them all on youtube. The video will be up shortly!

Ok, the video is 42 minutes long, and 1080p. I clicked upload to youtube over 6 hours ago. It's still not uploaded. Is this normal? Or is there something wrong here? I only uploaded a 10 second video before.
