On the Road Drivin (Bootleg of Atari Hard Drivin ??) the shifter (gear-change) feels sloppy.
Rather than a "H" range of movement, it is as if it is like an 8-way joystick without self-centering. ie you can go horizontally from 1st to 3rd gear and back rather than having to go down across and back up.

Is this normal? I´m considering just knocking up a mechanical rstrictor plate for the shaft and possibly also including a couple of horizontal spring to pull it into a central position when a gear isn´t selected.

All and any info, suggestions more than appreciated.

Upright (compact) or cockpit model? The cockpit model uses a "real" shifter while the upright (compact) uses an Atari shifter like you'd see in a number of old school Atari titles...

Since it's a bootleg, there is a chance that a different shifter was used... Got any pix?

Upright model. No pics as yet. The beast is still on the trailer in the barn till I can arrange 3 friends to assist me lifting the heavy thing off and getting it into the house.
I´m not going to start stripping the thing down till it is off of the trailer as an evening of freeplay (plus a few beers) will be their reward for shifting the heavy thing.
