My buddy just got a Hard Drivin' cockpit. Appeared to be in working order, runs in attract mode, etc. However, when it runs through the bootup it says "MSP Error" and doesn't allow you to actually play. It can run test mode, but when you try to select options with the coin mechs it says "MSP timeout error".

Anyone familiar with this problem? Is this a RAM issue like the ADSP Error? He just got this cab and I'd hate for him to have to buy another boardset for it....

Jed Margolin recommends burning new chips for the boardset, I can't disagree.

I would first re-seat all the chips on the board sets, re-seat the connectors, make sure 5v from the power supply is dead on, etc.

What troubleshooting have you done thus far?

Zip so far....but I'll try those items when I get a chance. It WAS just moved so something could theoretically have come loose. I don't know what the error means, was hoping someone knew that one :)

I guess HobbyROMS can do a new set of chips if I need em right (assuming the above simple troubleshooting fails)?

Probably. MAME has the full set, and they're nothing special and still available, so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do a full set burn for you.

Hell if he plans to keep it, this would be good 10+ year insurance anyway.
