I was wondering if there is a way to tell if a PCB is for Race Drivin' and Hard Drivin' without installing it? I have two boards. They are supposed to be one of each, but they look absolutely identical.

If you are so inclined to answer that question maybe you will also know if there is a way to tell a cockpit from a compact. I know there are a few "Drivin" guys on here that will probably be able to answer this question...

Thanks for your help!

I have gone and pulled my cockpit PCB and compared it to a compact PCB I bought. I see that the steering connects to two different locations on the boards, so I think I have answered my second question.

Race drivin has four boards connected via the ribbon, Hard Drivin has three.

Is there always 4 cards with Race Drivin? I have read that there was an addon card that was possible, but only three were needed. Please do not think I am criticizing you, just trying to get the scoop because I just bought a race drivin board and it is identical to my current hard drivin board...

I've seen three Race Drivin boards in the last 2 years, and all of them had four boards, while the Hard Drivin one only had three. These were all upright/ compact models. I believe the additional board was the DSK board. Maybe someone else can chime in, and confirm this.

Having spoken to Jed about converting my Hard Drivin' cockpit to Race Drivin' there is indeed an additional board required for RD that isn't present in the HD cockpit.

I don't have the emails to hand and we were talking about cockpits (I had a donor Race Drivin' U/R and a HD cockpit) so it may not 100% answer your question.

Although if you go to Jed's site he does mention some PCB changes between HD and RD which should help you identify which is which. Even if you don't want to do that, google the part numbers from the EPROMs and that should tell you which board is which.

The ROM numbers had something to do with whether they were compact or cockpit. Jed's site has the numbering, one set has a 77, the other has 78, or something like that.

To throw you for a loop, it was also possible to upgrade from a Hard to a Race drivin' with a cpu and rom swap, possibly other stuff. I'm trying to get the upgrade kit manual from a guy here to confirm what all got changed out.
