So I'm looking at the option of upgrading my SF Rush from it's hard drive to compact flash. Actually first I will be upgrading from SF Rush to Rush the Rock although I'm not sure there's a difference with regards to using compact flash.

My research shows that I would need a Compact Flash to IDE Adapter and a compact flash. And of course the correct files for the game.

looked at newegg.com and found a few like the one in the link for example
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._Flash_to_IDE_Adapters-_-22-998-003-_-Product

Would like to buy something that's good enough quality to do the job but won't break the bank.
Anyone got suggestions of what a good Compact Flash to IDE Adapter would be? Also a suggestion on which compact flash card? what size ect.

Just looking for input on this as I have no idea really.
Thanks, Dan

That should work, though you'd probably want something to physically support it, since that plugs directly into the IDE connector on the PCB, and would be supporting the weight of the adapter and CF card. I'm running mine from these: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0255159 (connected by the original IDE cable) with a generic 2GB CF card, with no problems. The image in the MAME set is from an 8GB drive, so it'll error while writing the image (unless you get a >8GB card), but it works just fine... since all the data is in the first 1GB.

I paid 3.50 shipped for a pair of adapters (came from China) and 26 shipped for a pair of 2 gig kingston cf cards, both on ebay. $15 per rush doesn't break the bank. :)

Don't forget that some games check for a very specific hard drive; I know that for the Killer Instinct CF card replacement, a rom has to be replaced on the board to allow it to read the cf card (or any kind of hd)

This site gives lot of infos about the process for a killer instinct board. It's a bit offtopic, but it could give some insight on the project of replacing the sfrush hd.

Rush the Rocks are very easy to convert over, I've done 4 so far with no issues. They dont check the hard drive from what I know of.

I've used 2gb transcends and 2gb sandisk. Prefer the transcends, but both work fine for me.

Does this have to be a compact flash card? Has anyone tried using a SD Card?

I bought the IDE to CF adaptor from FRY's with a 4gb CF card...

You will also need a 4pin molex to floppy drive adaptor...

It has been working fine in my Rush the Rock AE.

Compact Flash is built to IDE standards and is the best match for doing this...

I have seen SD card to IDE adaptors, I was going to try one out in my Rush 2049, as it needs a 20GB+ hard drive.....
