Didn't want to post something until it was sitting in my garage, but I was able to acquire a Funhouse today for under $1,000! Rudy has been taunting me since childhood and now I have the upper hand! It was a long 3 hour drive each way, but also met an awesome couple along the way. It turns out I had actually spoken with the husband numerous times through work back when I lived down in Springfield.
This acquisition also proved there are still good, honest people in the world. The FH was listed on CL for an obviously excellent price. I happened to be first, and had a great conversation with the sellers (during which time her call waiting rang for this pinball no less than 10 times). She said she knew that it was worth way more than the asking price but was hoping it would go to a great home with someone who truly loved the game and hopefully with kids.
I openly told her that due to work constraints I wouldn't be able to come down for 3 days (today) to get it and that if she needed it to go quickly, I completely understood. She said I was exactly the person she wanted to sell it to, and a verbal agreement was good enough for her and she pulled the listing.
For those that got to see the listing in the hour or so it was up there, the emails and phone calls this couple got from several unscrupulous people was not surprising, but nonetheless dispicable. Several told her that they would be there in an hour and would offer her way more than the asking price and to "screw me over", including one that told her that he "had a buyer" lined up. One so much as called 3 times including again late this morning to see if I had showed up yet, requesting that she hide the machine and tell me that it was sold. Wow.
Anyways, it was a perfect day for a long drive and Rudy has made it home safely. Pictures to come tomorrow after I've had a chance to unwrap it. The game is in outstanding condition and just needs a bit of clean up. Rudy plays great. I need to replace a few bulbs and check a credit dot, but my kids are going to be elated that Dad was able to acquire one of my all time favorites!
