I'm working on a pair of Happ SE-M21C19's and just finished capping one of the chassis, all 50 or so caps worth. I re-installed the chassis and I get nothing. No neck glow at all. I verified voltage coming in, but that's all. I'm thinking it's the shut down circuit or perhaps a transistor, but I'm not familiar with working on this style of monitor at all. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

After researching a bit and reading Randy Fromm's basic monitor troubleshooting I decided to re-check all my work and inspect the solder joints on the neck board, power connector and flyback. I found one cap missing completely at C315, solder missing on one cap lead, and cracked solder on one pin of the flyback. I fixed all that and then reflowed the power connector solder. Fired it up and got noise along with a super bright, centered vertical line. Ugh. Then I remembered that this particular monitor chassis uses a remote adjustment pcb, so I found it and plugged it into the chassis. Fired it up again, turned up the brightness and fine tuned the adjustments, and BAM! I have a like new burn free Happ. Nice.

My wiggly letters are back, they seem to go away with horizontal size adjustment, but only for awhile. The pots on the remote adjustment board seem OK, but I am going to reflow the solder and poke around a little.

On the second monitor I finished the cap kit and fired it up to get a nice, bright picture that does this crazy multiple overlap thing. I have no idea on this one and would appreciate any suggestions. See pic.

Is that image static?......or is it scrolling really fast giving the illusion of multiple images?

If it's static.....it kinda looks like a medium resolution monitor with a standard resolution signal ran into it.

its static. i have two of the same model and the other one just gives wiggly text. these are happ imports from 1998 pretty sure they arent med res but ill double check.

I don't know if it helps.....those are re-branded Segai monitors. I''ve only ever seem one or two. Not a lot about them....out there in web land.

Couple of things I've learned about these re-branded Segai monitors. They don't like being turned on with the remote adjustment board disconnected. There are 3 adjustment pots near the video connector. Adjusting them can do several things, but specifically for my issue I was able to increase the brightness and eliminate the wiggle or wave in the text. There is also a separate adjustment pot for the H and V hold. Messing with the V hold quickly cleared up the overlapping image issue I was having with the second monitor. So my cap kits were a success I just needed to relax and adjust some pots! I now have two very nice working 19" monitors. Big thanks to Randy Fromm, who pointed me in the right direction. If you haven't read his technical manuals, you should.
