Anyone know if this will work in an Area 51? I don't know the pinout of the Area 51 9 pin molex or the pinout of this one.

Here is the existing power supply:

The one in your link looks correct.

The 9 pin DC output connector wiring of it is JAMMA standard:

Pins 1, 2, 3: +5 volts

Pins 4, 5, 6: Ground

Pin 7: -5 volts

Pin 8: +12 volts

Pin 9: Not used, no connection

Interesting -- I didn't know there was a Jamma standard for power supplies.

Thanks Ken as always! And Happy New Year!!!

Yes, there has been one for about 24 years now. It was listed on the Amusement & Music Operator's Association (A.M.O.A. ) website for a long time. It was listed under "Endorsed Policies", Industry Standards & Practices section 2 video pinball redemption, but recently AMOA put that in their pay section and you must now be a member of the organization to access it. Policy # 17 states:

All standard DC switching power supplies shall have two separate standard snap and lock connectors (Molex .093" connector or equivalent)

A. Output connector will be a 3x3 matrix 9-pin snap and lock (keyed); pins 1, 2, and 3 are +5 Volts; Pins 4, 5,and 6 are ground; Pin 7 is -5 Volts; Pin 8 is +12 Volts; Pin 9 is a spare.

B. AC input connector will be a 3-pin snap and lock (keyed) Pin 1 (hot) Line; Pin 2 Ground; Pin 3 (white) Neutral.

Approved AMOA/JAMMA wiring standard May 1988 and revised November 1988.

My repair guide for the Power Play 150 power supply has a printed label with the pinouts of the power connectors.

Yeah, as KenLayton said, there is a standard that has been in place for quite some time, that is not to say however, to watch out for any hack jobs. I've seen where those power supplies have been hacked, pins moved around, etc. where it was done to make something else work. As long as there is no electrical tape on the harness anywhere, I usually will just check the colors (which are easy to remember, top row red, middle row black, bottom white and yellow), and if they are good, I usually have faith, but double check before just applying power.

hmm, looks like that list isn't exactly right.

the power supply in my KI doesn't look like the ATX style one they show (which mounts where my isolation transformer is).

This one is wrong? It looks alot like the one in my MK4 I will have to check it tonight.

Is the connector right? The one for Nintendo cabs doesn't look like a Nintendo power supply but it will work as a replacement.

The Neo Geo one is correct I can tell you that.

notice how there's no way to install the one they say is the correct one where my isolation transformer is?

and here's a pic of the one in my Dedicated Rampage World Tour (the one in your mk4/radikal bikers)

also funny you say that's the one in your mk4 yet notice how they say all mk's are the screw type? (which is also untrue)

edit: i'm not saying it's 100% wrong but it's not accurate as i'm pretty sure i've seen KI1's with no iso and the ATX style PSU as well.

shame, it's a good find if it was more accurate.

that mk4 looks exactly the same as my RWT even down to the original power supply.
