I have a Happ gun that just stopped working a few days ago. I believe the opto board maybe toast, but can't open up the gun to check it out. It seems it uses a torx wrench, but it appears to have a knob in the middle.

I checked happ's website, but couldn't find the tool there.
Does anyone know where I can get one??

Those bits are called Security Torx bits, and most any auto place (like Schucks) should have them. Or you can order them from Bob Robert's site - go to the parts page and search for "security" or "torx" and you should find them.

I have a bunch of torx bits, but none have the hole in the middle. It looks like it takes a T-10 bit but mine is missing the small hole. Is it just a more secure bit??

I 'll check bob roberts or better yet, the local radio shack. Thanks.

Yeah the hole part is the security part. They use the same bits on the CPS2 games.

I don't know if it's necessarily more secure, or just less likely to get opened up due to the bit being a bit less common.

If you have a big lots around you, they have a pretty cool little set. It has a buncha security bits in a nice little case. OR go to a local swap meet, they usually have stuff like that there, that's where I bought my last set. It was 32 different security bits with a case for about $10-$15. I think it was $15 and I bought some other stuff from him so he gave me a deal. Most regular places will sell a set of 7 for about $20.

My set of 6 from Schucks was $8 or $10.

Ah schucks, I bought mine at the wrong place.....ok, bad pun, I had no choice. I had to do it.

Happ guns use a tamperproof (a.k.a. security) Torx T-10 bit (Happ # 49-0452-00).

The optic usually break off the board or the solder to it goes bad. The replacement optic is # L14G1.

If you have "Type 1" guns (now obsolete) the replacement circuit board is # 96-0066-100SMD. Type 1 guns are identified by the fact that they have screws and nuts holding the gun halves together. Limited parts availability on type one guns. If the parts you need are no longer available then you must convert it to type 2 by getting either # 96-2600GK-10 (red housing) or # 96-2600GK-12 (blue housing) kit.

If you have "Type 2" guns (current production) the replacement circuit board is # 96-0066-200. Type 2 guns are identified by the fact that they have screws and threaded inserts holding the gun halves together.

The gun has a green shell and the metal cable instead of the rubber cable. That probably makes the gun a type 1? I'm going to order the bit today from Happ.

Thanks for all the help.

It's a type one only if it is held together with screws and nuts. Type 2 has threaded inserts pressed into the plastic half. The tech support dept at Happ can help if you need further help.
