Food Fight sticks are so expensive
I see parts being made and talk of reproduction
But until we have a reliable inexpensive source
This may be a good option

I found that Happ makes a 5k analog stick .. well now only a flight stick
Picked one up here on klov ..Thank You ..Paul Olson

Cool fact listed on Happs sight ..
This product is manufactured under a technology license agreement with Atari Games Corporation

Also found

A repro food fight shaft
Thank You .. Mylstar

All that was needed was to modify the shaft of the repro stick
to fit into the Happ controller
Lucky to have a machinist in the family...and so..

Check it out ..what do you think

It did come out a 3/16 taller then it should
And the springs are a little strong.. I'd have to compare to the original grommet

But I'd say I nice modern more reliable alternative that they still sell parts for.
And since it's licensed by Atari you don't have to feel as bad not having an original ..that's what I tell myself anyways

Thanks !!

I thought if someone wanted they could reproduce the stick
Already modified to fit in the Happ controller

I don't imagine there's high demand for it though

very cool - thansk for sharing - I have a Food fight waiting for joystick and PCB....
this is a solution to joystick- although i dont know a machinist...

I still need to drill out the top plate to adapt to the original mounting holes on the control panel ..should work out real nice ..
I'll post more pics once I get it installed

Finished this a while ago but forgot to
Post a photo of the finished product

This worked out nice
Definitely a Different feel from original
But it works 100% and looks great

Awesome, and thanks for the update. Great project. I'd love to see these made available, as there are lots of those Happ sticks out there.

So feel-wise, how does it compare? The Atari sticks are 'the reference', but are actually pretty cheaply made. I know the Happ ones are insanely well-built. Can you describe the difference in feel and gameplay? (Is it as accurate, heavier, lighter, etc?)

Well honestly
Iv only played the game a few times using the original controller
Up in funspot .. and Im thinking that stick has seen better days

The new controller works exactly the same
Using 2 5k potentiometers
So as far as accuracy on screen there no difference

The original used a rubber grommet and I'm sure even a fresh one would be easier to move .. also I believe the pivot ball the stick mounts to is larger on the original making the throw a little wider if I'm even explaining that correctly

This flight stick uses strong springs and so it's not as easy to move
Also that pivot is smaller and tighter
No doubt a superior design with higher quality materials
I thought to see if lighter springs could be installed to
Make it a little easier to move but it's really not a big deal

I'd like to get another few games with an original control
To get a better comparison but from what I remember
That's the best way I can explain the difference

Definitely an option if you can't locate an original
And it beats the wico stick that was rigged up in the game when I got it

I did have to modify the mounting plate and use long Cartrage bolts to mount it
And getting the stick cut down might be task

But yeah other then the feel of it
it looks and operates great

Wondering if anyone has this flight stick for sale, and if Yodamingus' relative would be able to machine my stick to match?

Not the same handle, but the same base. Golly they are expensive. This is the cheapest version at $181.

Yes I know, hence why I was asking if anyone here had one. People keep mentioning getting them for 40 bucks on ebay. I haven't seen anything like that. But now that everyone knows what they retail for, that should help.
