Back in 2000 I pieced back together a MACH 3 upright laser game. I installed a new Happ 19" monitor which had a great picture and has never given me a problem till now. It has very low hours, mainly gets used twice a year for 8 hours each time so no more than 16 hours a year. The last party I had (Christmas Eve) I went out in the game room to turn everything off and noticed my MACH 3 was playing blind so I turned it off and never looked into it till now. Everything on the monitor still looks new, nothing burnt or loose so the first thing I checked was the power and I have AC on the plug so it's getting AC power. Next I checked the 2 fuses on the chasses and found F502 a 1amp 250volt fuse had blown. I looked and don't have a 1 amp fuse so I am going to try and find one local. In the mean time I thought I would ask if anyone has had any experience with this monitor and might know why the fuse blew. I know fuses usually don't blow for no reason and don't have hi hopes just replacing it will fix the problem. The board has K1-2-VO and SUM on it. I did a search and found a post from Ken Layton which posted a link to this manual and it appears to be a match.

Anyone have a flow chart for this one.
Here's some pictures of the monitor.

Ok, here's an update. Believe it or not Radio Shack had the correct fuse. I replaced the 1 amp fuse, fired it up and fuse blew. So I did something I don't recommend doing, I put in a 1 amp slow blow fuse and fired it up. This time the fuse did not blow but the flyback did. I heard hi voltage wine and or deflection but also heard crackling and seen smoke from the flyback as well as black bubbling on the transformer so I cut power fast. It was only on for a second. So it would appear the flyback is toast. :(
I did find the instruction manual that came with the monitor. It's a Happ Controls 19" Universal Monitor and is dated May,1996 but I am sure I bought it in 2000. The book is identical to the one posted in my post above except for the cover page, it has WICO and mine has Happ but the rest is the same.
The flyback is FT 701 part number 13-300720 FTB for 19 FE2014. That's all it says and I did a search on Happs web site and came up with nothing. Anyone have a source for this Flyback? What are my options?
Thanks for any help.

I could suggest contacting HAPPs customer service. They helped me locate part numbers that are not always readily displayed on their site. Even though the part was more than like 15 years old.

Just an FYI......Happ didn't make their own monitor. They bought other companies monitors and just stuck their name on them. Over the years they used different companies.....so two "Happ" monitors can be two totally different beasts. This can make sourcing parts kinda tricky. If you do find a "Happ" flyback.....make sure it's the right "Happ" flyback.

Sam, can you make out an actual part number on the flyback, itself. I've had good luck finding oddball flybacks here...(though, some are expensive)

Thanks for the help guy's. I did a lot of google searching and came up with the answer to most of my questions. I found a couple posts on other sites made by Ken Layton. Over on Mike's Arcade he has a page called Ken's Korner which has a wealth of information compiled by Ken.

Their I found his Kortek KT-1420A Repair Guide Copyrighted 2008 by Ken Layton. Edward, you are correct the monitor was sold by Happ but made by Kortek. They were also sold as Imperial,Tekbilt,Wico and a few more. Their seem to be slight differences between them, 2 different PC boards and many of the component values are different but they all seem to share the same fly back transformer and the schematics are identical looking with just different value components. Seems my Happ version and the Wico are very similar. The best news is Bob Roberts sells the fly back, part number KFS-60291, another part number is HR 8508 and the part number on my transformer is FE2004 which was also listed as a part number here.
http://www.donberg.ie/descript/h/hr_8508.htm
. In Ken's repair guide he lists the HOT and some replacement numbers for it but they appear to be bottle cap type transistors where the HOT in mine is not. It's a 2SC4769. I posted a picture below. About the only question I haven't found the answer to is what the B+ voltage should be set at and where is the B+ test points. The schematic shows where the B+ adjust pot is located. So I guess it's time to place an order with Bob. I'll update when I get the parts.
Thanks everyone and especially Ken Layton :)

Here's the latest update for anyone still interested.
It seems like everyone I have tried is out of stock. I emailed Happ and did get a response. Here's their answer
Unfortunately we do not have any parts left for that unit. The company that made that monitor went out of business.I had also Emailed Dönberg Electronics LTD in Ireland and got a reply back today. They say they can get one in about 10- days and then ship it to me. The only thing is it's a little pricey at €78.94 which is $117.23 USD:eek: but I would love to fix this monitor and it looks like the only place I could find one so I decided to order one. I just hope for that price it's the correct one and will last longer than the original one did.
I'll let everyone know when it arrives.

You could have ordered a universal chassis replacement for less than that flyback cost, and gotten it faster, too...

Here's the latest update. I got another email from Dönberg Electronics today.
Please see new quote in the attached
Sorry got a new price from the supplier when we went to order
You may send on the balance 20.80 by paypal with the fee or you may
use credit card
Again I´am sorry but when we get new stock sometimes the price changes
So that's € 20.80 which is another $30.29 USD :eek:so total cost for this fly back is now jumped from $112.30 to $141.90. It better be a dam good flyback.

They currently have it listed on their site for $45 if anyone feels like stocking up.

Although I'm debating whether it's worth the investment even at this price with shipping.

They have a rudimentary schematic available. Perhaps I should learn how to measure unknown flybacks and see if one of the many scrap transformers I've removed from TV sets will work.

Wow it's hard to believe it's been 5 years and I still haven't fixed this monitor. I received the new flyback but never opened the box to see if it's even the correct one. I may make this my next project as I have been working on a few monitors the last few months. I got the G08 in my Star Trek multi working and rebuilt a K7000 and I just finished a G07 in my Burger Time which went bad before this Happ monitor blew the flyback. Now I need to decide if I should replace the caps wile I am at it. I haven't even checked if anyone sells the correct cap kit for this monitor as their seems to be a few different versions. I bought this monitor new from Happ around 2000 and it's had very little use but it is 16 years old so I guess it would not hurt to install new caps. As soon as I wrap up the Burger Time hopefully today I'll pull this one out of the MACH 3 and give it a go.

Ha that's funny. What if you open the box and find out it's a My Little Pony t-shirt?

After the last 5 years of monitor experience, it should be a breeze for you.

With such little power-on time, I wouldn't bother capping it. I don't know if I'd expect the flyback to be bad either. :004_ssuprised:

I inherited an older version of this Kortek monitor from an old poker machine. It has LOTs of hours I'd gather from the burn in. But other than that, it still has a great picture. I'm hoping it lasts for many more years.

Good luck with the repair!
