Hey, just picked up a dedicated Ki2 cab with hanterex polo, it has an obscene amount of red basically when screen is supposed to be black..... Its red..... Are there any color adjustments on the chassis? And if so where are they located? The satelite board doesnt seem to have what i need to change it..

As always thanks for the help!

neckboard is where any color controls will be. there's two varieties, and I don't remember what Hantarex labeled them as, but one pair (I think it's just red and green, don't quote me --- EDIT: could also be mistaken and the Polos have adjustments for all red, green and blue too) is for the color drives = actual amount of a color it puts out, and the other three are for color biases = for fine tuning how much red, green and blue are present in the image.

I'd start with turning the red drive down, can you get it black, or does it lose too much color? then try turning the red bias down, if you still can't get it black, then you may be looking at what I would consider a rare Polo tube problem. (they generally came with very nice RCA tubes... I have 3 that still look great)

you may even be missing the knobs for the trim pots for these. you can always pop one or two out of your remote board for use in adjusting these, and then pull them back out and insert them into whatever pots you yanked them from on the remote.

well i tried adjusting the red and blue on the neck board, and nothing changes as far as red leaving the screen, so far it has been impossible to get a Black screen out of this chassis.......

Me and monitors...............

Cold solder?

The two Polos that I've come in contact with were plagued with cold solder. It was bad everywhere. I didn't experience this problem with a Polo, but I did experience it with a K7000 that had cold solder on the input pins.

I would pull the chassis and go over the joints if you can't get anywhere with the pots.

Two out of the three Polo tubes I own have had tube issues. I just balanced/cleaned one yesterday that had weak red and blue, causing the image to be overly green. After a successful balance/clean with the rejuvenator the tube's pic looks great. If you have a WG 25" k7000 chassis that is know to be working, you can swap it to the tube and that will tell you if you have a tube or chassis issue.

what. are the yokes the same? heh I was always under the impression they were way different. not to mention the Polo's yoke plug is VERY different from anything I've ever seen.

Yep. One of the yoke ohms is off by a couple, but they still work great, at least for 25"s. I currently have a Polo tube w/ a WG K7000 chassis in my MK 2. I had to change the width cap to get the pic wide enough, but other than that it's perfect. I also have the same combo for my test rig monitor.

But yeah, the Polo tube has a totally different style yoke than the typical WG tube, no conv. rings. But trust me, they work together.

for a year now I thought I was hallucinating when I couldn't find the rings on the Polo. :D

how the hell do you adjust convergence on them then?

one of my polos had the same heavy red issue but in blue. turned out to be bad soldier joints at the 3 transistors on the neck board right below the 3 large resistors.

necro thread!

well since we're on the subject, the Polo in my KI2 would periodically turn purple... I got scared. upon pulling the chassis, I was zapped about 20 times working with the drive transistors, cause they hold a charge even with discharging. I've even grounded that neckboard out accidentally against the monitor frame, created some awesome blue lightning. I didn't nuke anything however...

but yeah, it was then I discovered that whoever the asshole was that capped this monitor installed about 3 or 4 caps in it backwards. mysteriously doesn't seem to affect its operation, although occasionally you'll get some random black lines and shit going through the screen during gameplay.

one day I'll redo it. what matters though is reflowing the drive transistors yielded the purple nonsense going away entirely.
