I finally unloaded a California Speed that was given to me. It has a POLO 34" monitor, they think it works, not sure. I was checking it out, and the AC input says 230V. The manual shows that the 230V is Europe only. What type of transformer do I need for this bad boy? Also, is this STD, MED, or switchable? Thanks

There is also a little handwritten note inside the cabinet that says "CAUTION!! 230 VOLT GAME!! USES STEP-UP XFORMER for 110V"

The note looks like it was written by the previous owner.

If you have an Atari power brick lying around for their raster games (like Centipede), you can use it to generate an isolated 230vac from 120vac input.

I have a thread here somewhere detailing how to do that...

you can convert that to accept 110v iso fairly easy..
If you try runing that with 110v while in 230v mode it may or may not fire..
If it fires your image will be grosely distorted or dim since its not pulling the correct amount current.

110v mode
Add jumper across p105
c101 .47uf 250vac
c104 .22uf 250vac

wahla!

me = :0

Uncle Chad ftw.

on a side note, is it an accurate assessment to say that most any switching power supply could be capable of both 110/230 through either a switch or through the jumper approach?

I started taking the California Speed apart, and that machine has already been robbed. No wonder the guy gave it to me. One neat thing I did find inside was this:

Even the marquee lamp in this game is labeled 230V. I assume this Philmore ST750 will be just fine for my 34" Polo?

and to think, all that was needed was a micro gram jumper vs a 50 pound transformer. :)

LOL....there is also a big iso-looking transformer in the bottom of the cabinet. Wonder what it is for? Converting the 230V into something the little light bulbs in the buttons can use?

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread here but this was the closest I could find to what I need. What do I need to change to convert a Euro 25" Polo from 220-240Vac to 110? Is it the same as what Chad said above for the 34"?
