Relative noob to these boards and definite noob to the monitor repair realm. After poking around this monitor forum, it seems that I've got some problems with my Hantarex Polo 25 (as if the blind-playing Golden Tee 98 didn't tell me that already). I have (the apparently common) ticking sound. I've heard tell of flowcharts and other helpful guides for this gem of a monitor. Can someone post or pm me details please?! :D

the ticking problem is symptomatic of either: a) failed HOT (horizontal output transistor) b) the flyback went kaboom or c) power supply section failure. I think I went from most common to uh, lesser common there lol. pay mention that it could be one or many of these causes.

I had a couple of them recently where the HOTs checked good and it was just the flybacks that went bad though. one had an inch long crack in the side of it. inspect your flyback for physical damage first (cracks, orange goo leaking out).

other people have insisted that installing cap kits fixed this problem. a few caps actually go in the power supply section, so that's not entirely far out.

have to also be mindful that these were in production in the early 90s, if they've never been serviced before, things can potentially go bad on them about........... now.

OK - thanks for the reply. So it seems investing in the Bob Roberts cap/flyback kit for $25 is probably a good investment. Anyone know the part number for the HOT? BR have those as well? I was really interested in one of those cool flowcharts so I could systematically troubleshoot this bad-boy. Anyone? Pretty please?... :D
