i picked up a 25" Hantarex 9110 as part of a deal for several 25" monitors and some other parts. the first thing i noticed about the Hantarex was that the ground strap for the tube was disconnected and end of the wire stripped and bare. it also looks like someone did a recent cap kit, which may explain why the wire was disconnected.

as the monitor came with a manual, i found the connection point on the neck board attached the ground strap there. at that point it seemed kind of odd that the wire would be bare as the pin has no evidence of ever having been soldered to, and if a connecter were used why was it cut off?

when i powered up the monitor the fan ran and i could hear the tube crackle but after about a second it all shut down with a small 'click' noise. if i pull and reconnect power and it'll go through the same cycle.

so what's the likelihood that a disconnected tube ground wire caused damage? or should i be looking at something else? i took a look at the info here: http://www.coin.demon.co.uk/monitor.htm and R105 does not get hot (or even warm) and with the initial startup with static i'm assuming the flyback is probably good.

Re: Disconnected tube wire causing damage, sadly, pretty good.

You probably fried the HOT and possibly the fly. There was probably a nice arc the first time it was fired up like this. Once that happened, the smoke was let out.

I haven't found a way to make the smoke go back in, so you'll have to backtrack what would have been damaged. Start with the HOT and the flyback.

i found a copy of the flow chart. tomorrow i'll lift D-10 and see if it will fire up without the high voltage shutdown circuit in place.
