I recently put a new cap kit and flyback in a MTC-9000 that was making a clicking noise and not working. Well, that was not the problem. After turning off the lights I noticed some light flickering from underneath the yoke and also smelled smoke. I removed the yoke to find a black spot on the yoke and tube where it had been arcing. I cleaned off the tube to see if there was a crack or something but there wasn't.

Below is a picture of the black spot on the yoke. So, do I have a bad yoke or is the tube shot? I have never experienced this before.

looks bad to me.

sell the chassis.

scrap the copper in the yoke.

yoke swap it to a nice wells K7000 or a 4900 if the tube is compatable.

problem solved.:)

if the tube is compatible someone has to have a K7000a or a 4900 yoke lying around somewhere.

use this tool to see what it says about the tube.

and if you can't find it on there post your tube # and we can look it up.

i should have a 4900 yoke here on a bad tube or in a box.

can you not wipe the black off, then see where the burn is, separate the windings slightly and apply shellac to the exposed wires to seal them again. That's what I used to do many many years ago to sort that problem out! it does happen, its not a common fault with yokes but yes I have seen it before

well i think its only slightly arcing as any more than that and the HOT transistor would go short! so it does sound salvageable to me anyway!

put a multimeter on it on diode check, if its short will read .000 if ok will read around .500 depending on the meter between collector and emitter

usually when short reads .000 all pins round!
